HARBOUR FALLS TOUR BANNER

Review:

If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a good mystery….well the first two books in this series (because I see a third is in the works) intrigued me and left me wondering who did what and why!  All good elements of a mystery novel.  The first book, Harbour Falls sets the scene for Maddy and Adam, former classmates that have always had an interest in each other.  While Maddy was away becoming a famous author, Adam has been making his way in the computer industry.  During those years he was set to marry Chelsea, not because he loved her but because of blackmail.  However, she disappeared the day before their wedding and Adam was the prime suspect at the time.  Maddy writes mystery novels and wants to try her hand at a true crime book, but she didn’t count on reuniting with Adam and falling in love.  Maddy discovers during her research that not was all as it seemed and perhaps the police didn’t quite do their job.  There were a lot of twists and turns in the first book, Harbour Falls and I have started Willow Point and this one is going to be just as fascinating!

harbourfalls1

Synopsis:

Best-selling author Maddy Fitch, researching material for a new novel, returns to her hometown of Harbour Falls to investigate a disappearance that has haunted the tiny Maine coastal town for the past four years. Maddy soon discovers that the case has gone cold, but the prime suspect, Adam Ward, is hotter than ever. Now living on an isolated island, Maddy takes up residence near the sexy Mr. Ward’s home. As she begins to seek out answers, the mystery deepens, putting Maddy in jeopardy.
Lies, secrets, deceptions. Nothing is ever what it seems in Harbour Falls.

A steamy novel that immerses the reader in an intricate storyline that will keep them glued till the very last page.

First in a series. Romance/Mystery genre.

WillowPoint

Synopsis:

With the Harbour Falls Mystery solved, author Maddy Fitch hopes secrets and lies are behind her. But a cryptic letter from her former best friend would seem to indicate otherwise. Is the man Maddy fell in love with while solving the Harbour Falls Mystery, the gorgeous and rich Adam Ward, keeping a damning and potentially dangerous secret from her? Only the writer of the letter, Ami Hensley, knows for sure. But Maddy is hesitant to confront her, since the last time they saw one another Ami tried to kill her.
But if Maddy wants answers–ones that could potentially save Adam–then she must face her fears and visit her former friend. Unfortunately for Maddy, Ami is currently locked up in the creepiest place in Maine, an old gothic structure that houses the criminally insane, known simply as Willow Point.

Will this new mystery tear Maddy and Adam apart?

Who else is in on Adam’s secret?

And will Maddy find the answers before it’s too late?

Another heart-stopping page turner from the author of Harbour Falls. Willow Point promises to keep you on the edge of your seat.

2nd in A Harbour Falls Mystery series. Romance/Mystery genres

Louisiana Fever

Synopsis:

Andy Broussard, the “Plump and Proud” New Orleans medical examiner, obviously loves food.  Less apparent to the casual observer is his hatred of murderers. Together with his gorgeous sidekick, psychologist Kit Franklyn, Broussard forms a powerful, although improbable, mystery solving duo.

When Kit goes to meet an anonymous stranger—who’s been sending her roses—the man drops dead at her feet before she could even get his name. Game on.

Andy Broussard soon learns that the man carried a lethal pathogen similar to the deadly “Ebola”—a highly contagious virus, feared worldwide for killing its victims (grotesquely) in a matter of days. When another body turns up with the same bug, widespread panic becomes imminent. The danger is even more acute, because the carrier is mobile. The man knows he’s a walking weapon and… he’s targeting Broussard.

And when Kit Franklyn investigates her mystery suitor further, she runs afoul of a cold- blooded killer, every bit as deadly as the man searching for her partner.

Louisiana Fever is written in Donaldson’s unique style:  A hard-hitting, punchy, action-packed prose that’s dripping with a folksy, decidedly southern sense of irony.  Mix in Donaldson’s brilliant first-hand knowledge of forensics, along with the sultry flavor of New Orleans, and readers will be fully satisfied with this irresistibly delectable mystery.

Review:

I thought it would be interesting to see how a guy would write a romance novel that would appeal to women.  I have to give him 4 paws for writing a witty story that while at times seemed more masculine, was filled with what you find in a normal relationship….miscommunication and misunderstandings!  I also found Brooke’s story to be very well written and her grief for her husband was very realistic.  Chase is a strong character but also has some secrets in his past that add to those misunderstandings!  But Brooke learning to live and love again was well timed.

Ixeos Rebellion

With rebel leader Darian free at last, the humans and outsiders on Ixeos must find a way to join forces and defeat the Firsts. The problem? All slaves are tracked with GPS, the Firsts are the only ones with power, and roving gangs hate the rebels just as much as they hate the aliens. As Darian and the outsiders from Earth travel the globe through the mysterious tunnels in Paris, they learn that the Firsts are preparing to launch another wave of biological warfare. With a transporter that will allow the aliens to target any city, anywhere on the planet, the rebels know they must stop them at all costs.

As things get more dangerous on Ixeos, the outsiders find that they’re pushed to their limit. Will they fight for freedom, no matter the price?

Excerpt

The tunnel felt damp as they stepped through the portal. Lindsey held the torch out in front of her, turning in both directions. There were small puddles of water on the floor; the rounded walls wept in places. The tracks looked rusty.

“Great,” Clay muttered. “Are you sure this place isn’t going to collapse on us?”

“Nope. With no one maintaining it, it will eventually,” Lindsey said.

“I wonder what happens to the portal if this side is underwater?” Sarah asked, pulling her arms tight across her chest and shivering.

“I guess we don’t get back to Boston, at least this way” Riley said.

“But could we still come through the portal, and then drown?” Sarah asked. She was feeling claustrophobic as she thought about the weight of the water above her. “Or, what if we’re walking through it and the walls crack…”

“Let’s hope that doesn’t happen!” Lindsey said, heading left. “At least if it floods while we’re in the city, we can get back home from New York or DC.”

“Remind me to come inspect the motorcycles,” Clay said. He and Samson had been in charge of all the Depots that housed motorcycles in Europe, but Samson had handled the others himself. Until he died. Clay shook his head to rid himself of the memory. Best not to think of that right now, in the circumstances.

“Gangs don’t use this tunnel much because of the water, so that’s good for us. The line goes all the way to Revere Beach that way…” Lindsey pointed behind them. “It’s a long way, but it’s nice out there and people used to go to hunt or fish. Not so much now. Everybody is afraid of the tunnel collapsing; the rebels don’t come in here at all.”

“Are there rebels near the LRTD that can help us?” Sarah asked.

“I don’t want to get any of them involved until we know more. Crossing over to the Cambridge side is dangerous. We’ve done some minor ops to cause trouble over there, but mostly we observe. There are a lot of Firsts on that side of the bridge.”

The group fell silent, contemplating the inhuman experiments the Firsts were notorious for conducting. Firsts had been in charge of some of the more gruesome human experiments in both Japan and Germany in World War II. Their lack of emotion but insatiable quest for what they called knowledge, along with a large population of slaves at their mercy, had allowed them to continue their “research.”

Ixeos

The McClellands are enjoying a lazy summer vacation at the beach when they are lured from our world into Ixeos, an alternate Earth. Finding themselves lost in a maze of tunnels under Paris and surrounded by strangers, they discover that they have been brought to Ixeos for one purpose: to take the planet back from humanoid aliens who have claimed it. With the aid of the tunnels and a mysterious man named Landon, the teens travel the world seeking the key that will allow them to free Darian, the long-imprisoned rebel leader. But the aliens aren’t the only problem on Ixeos — the McClellands have to deal with brutal gangs, desperate junkies, and a world without power, where all the technology is owned by the aliens, and where most of the population has been killed or enslaved. The worst part? There’s no way home.

corpse with golden nose

Synopsis:

A heartfelt plea to look into the death of a world-famous vintner goes hand in hand with the opportunity to attend an exclusive gourmet event in British Columbia’s stunning wine country. How can overindulgent foodie and criminologist Cait Morgan resist?

Sure that the award-winning owner of a family-run vineyard was murdered, Cait shares her findings with Bud Anderson, a retired homicide cop. But he is convinced that the woman took her own life, whatever her grief-stricken sister might say. That is, until death strikes once again, in the neat rows of grapevines that clamber up the banks of magnificent Lake Okanagan.

Uncovering obsessions that might have fueled murderous thoughts among the victim’s wacky neighbors is a start, but as Cait unravels the clues, she realizes that more lives are at stake. Can she think, and act, quickly enough to thwart the killer?

The Corpse with the Golden Nose is the second book in the Cait Morgan Mysteries, a classic whodunit series featuring the eccentric Professor Cait Morgan.

Review:

This is the second book in the series and like all series, I highly recommend starting with the first book because there are always references and you feel like you are missing out on something by not knowing what happened previously!   At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book, it seemed hard to get in because I wasn’t connecting with the characters.  But I kept reading and as I went along I grew to like the characters and their many quirks.  I found it fascinating that Cait’s profession is as a criminologist and her insight into the “wacky” neighbors…and trust me, they are wacky!  I think that is what was the turning point, meeting these characters and trying to figure out who killed Annette and why was Ellen so sure someone killed her?

There are some GREAT twists in this story and it was quite surprising to find out whodunit because I know I didn’t figure it out!  We give this book 4 paws.  I don’t know that I would say it is a cozy but not as heavy as the other mysteries.

Teaser:

“Thank you, baby,” he whispered, as he reached across the table to take my hand. We were dining at our favorite restaurant one night after a late meeting.

“For what?” I lovingly rubbed my thumb on his wrist.

“For being here with me.”

I was so engrossed in the conversation going on behind me that I didn’t respond.

“What?” He chuckled as he caught me smiling at him from across the booth.

“Nothing. These women right behind me are talking about you. The one facing you is gushing,” I whispered, amused.

This had become an acceptable fact of dating Alex. Even before you saw his face, there was no use hiding his body under anything he wore. His clothes just hung on him so perfectly, like a runway model. That night, he wore a white casual button down shirt over low-slung distressed jeans that had the perfect flair to match his canvas designer sneakers. His short hair showcased his perfect jaw, his full lips, his round blue eyes. His clean cut look was tempered by the stubble that lined his jaw and his chin.

“Come sit by me, please. You feel so far away.” His eyes were dancing like little blue lights on a Christmas tree. I stood up, walked around and slid into the booth with him. It was like he gave me his consent to claim my territory. He leaned against me, closing the gap between us as his mouth skimmed my earlobe.

“Much better,” he  murmured. “You know, I don’t care about anyone else but you.”

Patrick Carr was born on an Air Force base in West Germany at the height of the cold war. He has been told this was not his fault. As an Air Force brat, he experienced a change in locale every three years until his father retired to Tennessee. Patrick saw more of the world on his own through a varied and somewhat eclectic education and work history. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1984 and has worked as a draftsman at a nuclear plant, did design work for the Air Force, worked for a printing company, and consulted as an engineer. Patrick’s day gig for the last five years has been teaching high school math in Nashville, TN. He currently makes his home in Nashville with his wonderfully patient wife, Mary, and four sons he thinks are amazing: Patrick, Connor, Daniel, and Ethan.
