For Nick

What would you do for love?

Zachary Drake had love in his life—and tragically lost it. He knows it won’t come his way again. Andie Parker would do anything for the love of her life.

Even marry a total stranger.

In spite of the unorthodox manner in which Zach and Andie come together, there is no denying that things are unexpectedly good between them, taking them both by surprise.

However, when secrets come between them—and trust does not—Andie soon finds herself vowing to never make the same mistake again. But, she’d do it again in a heartbeat and she knows it. She’d marry a hundred strangers if it helped Nick. She’d do anything for Nick . . . anything.

Praise for For Nick

This is another winner by Taylor Dean! It only took me a little over a day to read this book because it’s such a page turner! What would you do to save the one you love most in the world? Marry a stranger? That’s exactly what Andie has to do for the love of her life Nick. This story is so sweet and wonderfully written. It’s a beautiful story of love and sacrifice. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster! Absolutely worth the read!
~Christy of Christy’s Cozy Corners

I love this book!! It seemed like a happy ending early on but since there was a lot of book left, I realized that something big was going to happen. Zach and Andie are adorable together and I loved watching their relationship develop into something real. But Nick was always looming in the background and definitely isn’t a relationship Andie is going to let go of. I’m not giving any spoilers with this so you’ll have to read this book yourself to find out who Nick is and why Andie won’t let that relationship go. I cried a lot towards the end. If you need a good cry, grab some tissues and curl up with this book!
~Melanie of Mel’s Shelves

Hang onto your emotions with this story, because they will be running all over the place, and you don’t want them to get away. One minute you’ll be sighing with joy, the next your mascara will be running down your face–you know, that kind of emotional meltdown type of book. I adored both Andie and Zach. They are so funny and cute together, and their ongoing alliteration game was right up my alley. The emotions throughout this book are extreme–no blah, mediocre feelings in this tale! No way! This is my 5th Taylor Dean book, and it’s hard to pick a favorite…but this has to be in the top 2 for the surprises it held.
~Charissa of Joy in the Moments

Synopsis:

Beth Carter is a psychologist to many and a single mother to four unruly boys. Patients might almost be manageable, but her boys aren’t. While the household lurches inevitably from one catastrophe to another, Beth finds herself barely managing to hold onto the vital threads of sanity whilst leading her often complex patients through their own remarkable journeys.

Beth finds it to be a lonely venture, leading her to look for love—but in all the wrong places.

Review:

This book is about one dysfunctional family!  Beth runs her psychology practice from her home and is mother to four boys, who can be out of control especially the older ones!  She has some quirky patients, most in denial (but then it wouldn’t be a psychology practice would it?!) but offering interesting perspectives on life.  I’m not sure how Beth didn’t go crazy as much as the boys put her through.  I thought it was funny how the baby of the family (who was called Baby) didn’t have a proper name until he was about 4 and then it was a group decision.  All of the characters lend themselves to rounding out the story from the inane and insane to the somewhat serious moments.  You do find yourself rooting for Beth that she manages to find love but not in the wrong place.

Overall we give it 3 1/2 paws.  It was enjoyable and an interesting read.

About the Author:

jcallahanJoan Callahan is a clinical psychologist practicing in Melbourne, Australia. She commenced her career teaching English and history at the prestigious Melbourne High School and later retrained in the field of psychology. Joan set up her own private practice and has a heavy forensic caseload, while providing consultancies to commerce, industry, and government. She also enjoys several mediation contracts. She particularly likes working with anxiety disorders, couples, and the full spectrum of psychological disorders.

Joan is the divorced mother of three boys, has three brothers, and three grandsons—not to mention that she taught only boys at Melbourne High School. By her sheer survival as teacher, mother, and psychologist, she considers herself something of an expert on boys. Joan loves her job, going to the gym, making bread, (boring, boring, boring. Next it will be romantic fireside chats and long walks on the beach at sunset!), socializing widely, and traveling around the world as often as she can with the love of her life. Her vast travels around the USA have provided fodder for the third book in this series as the inimitable Carter clan enjoy the wilds of Yeehaw Junction.

Life remains wonderfully hectic. Any similarity between Joan’s life and Beth’s is not purely coincidental.  Beth’s patients are pure fiction; her dogs are not. Her boys? Close!

Serenity Falls

By Tiffany Aleman & Ashley Poch

Genre: New Adult

Release date: Oct 4

Hosted by:  Stephanie’s Book Reports

 Synopsis

Kenleigh Briggs suffered debilitating depression at the age of twelve after losing both parents in a tragic house fire. Her aunt assumed guardianship and forced Kenleigh to learn how to horseback ride. She soon developed a bond with the horses that helped her work out her depression.

Seven years later, young Kenleigh is now a sophomore at the University of Texas, San Antonio. During summer break, she arrives at Serenity Falls, a horse ranch devoted to helping children with disabilities learn to ride. She loves watching the kids build the same healing bonds with the horses that she did. She really finds satisfaction in paying it forward.

Wesley Adams, the son of the ranch’s owners, is a professional bull rider who lives in Dallas. With his blond hair, Caribbean blue eyes, and tattooed muscular body, he is epitome of every woman’s dream. Wesley is good guy, but he has a bit of a rowdy side.

Kenleigh has learned to take life head on. She no longer holds back, and seizes every opportunity that she has to make herself happy. Content with the way her life is going, Kenleigh never expected Wesley. He takes Kenleigh on the ride of her life, until tragedy strikes again. As Kenleigh and Wesley discover a love like they have never known, will they also discover the best parts of life they are missing?

Excerpt

Instead of waiting for him to close the distance between us, I take the lead. I place a hand on his chest walking him backwards through the spray of the shower, his back collides with the wall. Our clothes cling to us like a second skin. I can feel my hair sticking to the sides of my face. My eyes search his face. I watch as the water turns to light brown from mixing with the mud as it cascades down his face, caressing his perfectly shaped cheekbones, nose, lips, and jaw line. I grip his shirt tightly in my hands as I lean into him. His strong hands come up, cupping my face. My eyes flutter close at the contact. “I’m so sorry Kenleigh. You have no idea,” he mumbles peppering kisses all over my face. “Look at me please,” he whispers against my lips.

“I’m not a man who gets scared very often, but I was going crazy out there thinking that you and I were done. Especially when we just got started.” He leans down, resting his forehead against mine. He closes his eyes for a moment taking a deep breath. When he opens them he adds, “I don’t know what it is that we’re doing, but I like it. I feel free, liberated, happy when I’m with you. You make me want to be a better man. I can’t explain my feelings, but I know they’re growing stronger and stronger for you each day, and I do not want that feeling to go away.”

I’m stunned speechless by his confession. The more and more time we spend together I can feel myself falling for him more and more, but I didn’t know he was feeling it too. Tilting my head up, I whisper against his lips, “I feel it too.”

A tentative smile pulls at my lips as he flashes me the brightest smile I think I’ve ever seen. “Yeah? Really? I mean you don’t ha—”

“Just shut up and kiss me,” I say with a chuckle cutting him off.

His hands go to my ass lifting me off the bottom of the shower as he spins around pinning me against the wall. With a mischievous smile his lips descend on mine as he says, “Yes ma’am.”

Within seconds, his tongue invades my mouth seeking and exploring every inch. Our hands search each other’s bodies as we tear at each other’s clothes. In no time we’re naked and I’m gasping as he slips inside me. It takes no time for me to adjust to his size. My fingers thread through his hair, gently tugging it. I groan loudly as he increases his thrusts. My body sings with pleasure when he begins sucking and nipping my neck, collarbone, and that sweet spot behind my ear. I’m blinded by lust. Our sweat mixes in with the water as it glides down our bodies. “Wes…I’m so close…” I pant out.

“F* baby…just a little bit longer…” he murmurs in my ear.

He begins a ravenous pace, pounding into me as I meet him thrust for thrust. Just as I explode calling out his name, he pulls out, coming all over my stomach. I can’t help but look down. I’m completely entranced by the sight of his hot, white, thick cum pumping onto me. Still heaving deep breaths, I hear him say, “I’m sorry. I didn’t know what else to do. I got caught up in the moment and I didn’t know if you were on any type of bir—”

“Stop,” I say cutting him off yet again.

“Huh?”

I look up from my stomach to him and back down in amazement before I reply, “That was the hottest thing I have ever seen.” A cocky grin tugs at the corners of his lips. I roll my eyes at him. “Shut up.” A chuckle escapes the both of us at the same time as he leans in and kisses me.

“What have I done to you?” He asks.

“I don’t know, but whatever it is, don’t stop,” I reply dropping my legs from around his waist. I look up meeting his eyes. “And just so you know, I’m on birth control. I have been for a long time.”

He arches an eyebrow silently asking me to explain further. “My periods.”

“All right. You don’t have to explain any further,” he says holding his hands up and shaking his head. “Let me help you get rinsed off,” he says huskily as he pulls me flush against him into the spray of the water. Before I can say anything a knock sounds on the door.

“When you two are done, I’d like a word with the both of you please.” Oh my gosh, Mrs. Sandy. My head drops to his chest as I screw my eyes shut tightly. Heat consumes my face from the embarrassment that I know is going to come when I have to face her.

Final ATR CoverFive Fun Facts about Against the Ropes

  1. I interviewed several MMA fighters while researching Against the Ropes. It was an incredible sacrifice but I wanted to ensure my readers had an authentic experience (I certainly did!).
  2. I spent a few days watching UFC events and then practiced my new moves on DH so I could write authentic choreography for the fight scenes. He’s still recovering.
  3. To get in the mood for fight club scenes, I listened to “The Best MMA Training Tracks – Fight Your Way Through the World.”
  4. To get in the mood for sex scenes, I pretended I hadn’t seriously injured DH while practicing my “ground and pound” and “rear naked choke hold” moves.
  5. In one scene, Makayla accidentally flings a beet across a fancy restaurant. Although beets are not a favorite food in our household, I bought a whole jar of beets and then set the munchkins to flinging them across the kitchen so I could assess speed, trajectory, and damage factor. They thought they had died and gone to heaven. They also thought I was the coolest mom EVER!

Synopsis:

He scared me. He thrilled me. And after one touch, all I could think about was getting more…

Makayla never thought she’d set foot in an underground mixed-martial arts club. But if anyone needs a medic on hand, it’s these guys. Trouble is, at her first sight of the club’s owner she’s the one feeling breathless.

The man they call Torment is all sleek muscle and restrained power. Whether it’s in the ring or in the bedroom, he knows exactly when a soft touch is required and when to launch a full-on assault. He always knows just how far he can push. And he’s about to tempt Makayla in ways she never imagined…

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series!  I don’t know if it is the witty banter or that it is set in Dallas, but I am always chuckling over Tara’s cases and just the trouble she gets in to.  Sort of reminds me of a Stephanie Plum but working for the IRS in Texas.  Diane Kelly has a winner of a series with Tara Holloway and the way this book ends, I can’t wait to read the next installment!

hot pink leg warmers

Synopsis:

It’s bad enough that Tara has to go on trial against the mortgage-frauding “Tennis Racketeers” who cheated banks and homeowners out of millions in between doubles matches. Now she has to go undercover—in a strip club—to strip the sleazeball owner of his indeed illegal livelihood. At least she’s working as a bookkeeper, not a pole dancer. And who needs tips when her undercover crush, Special Agent Nick, is the club’s bodyguard?

With so many hot bodies on display, Tara agrees to join her boss, Lu “the Lobo” Lobozinski, in her daily workouts at the Y. Lu’s on a health kick after recovering from cancer, and she’s pulled her leotards, tights, and hot-pink leg warmers out of mothballs. Which is okay with Tara. If she hopes to put Mr. Geils behind bars, grab the tennis boys by the balls, and lock lips with the unsuspecting Nick, she needs to be in the best shape of her life…

Sarah Castille Interviews MMS fighter, Torment

SC: Um…er…hi, Torment. **pushes up glasses** **wipes drool off chin**

Torment: Call me Max. Torment is my ring name and I rarely use it outside the gym or fight ring.

SC: **breaths heavily and sighs** I love the name, Torment. It sounds so…tormented. How did you choose it?

Torment: Fighters don’t choose their ring name, just as bikers don’t choose their road name. Ring names are picked by your team and are usually linked to something unique the fighter has done inside or outside the ring. I once knew a fighter nicknamed “Spew Beast”. Every time he went drinking with his buddies, he would drink too much and throw up on the street. If a fighter doesn’t like his ring name, he can fight his way out of it by winning a certain number of fights; his team will then choose a new name.

SC: Did you have a different ring name or were you always Torment?

Torment: I got my name after I fought my first boxing match when I was three years old. I was accused of tormenting my opponent in the ring, when all I’d done was take away his blankie and hit him with a right cross. I stayed with that club until I was sixteen, training with the same kids. The name stuck.

SC: Have you trained in any other fighting arts?

Torment: When I decided to pursue MMA, I had to broaden my fight base. I trained in Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling, Judo and Sambo. In other words, things that are focused on takedowns and clinch fighting.

SC: Feel free to take me down anytime.

Torment: **winks** There’s only one woman I want to take down and that’s my Makayla.

SC: So, where is Makayla today?

Torment: Probably sky diving or swimming with sharks. She’s a bit of a daredevil, especially if she thinks it’s something I would forbid her from doing. But she should be here soon, I promised to teach her some new moves.

SC: Hmm. I’ve seen some of your moves. Written about them, too. What’s your favorite move? I’m partial to the ‘full mount’ where my opponent takes the ‘dominant position’ although I’m not adverse to a good old ‘ground and pound’ with a ‘Submission Master’.

Torment: **laughs** I’d have to say my favorite move is the Rear Naked choke.

Sarah: **chokes** **splutters**

Torment: Looks like a good time to wrap up. What’s next for you?

Sarah: Thanks for taking the time to chat with me today. I’ve finished the second book in the Redemption series. It’s about Jake and Amanda.

Torment: Jake and Amanda? I thought they’d split. Why don’t you write about Rampage or Blade Saw? Or Obsidian. Now there would be a good story.

Sarah: Actually, I’ve started book three but I’m not telling you who it’s about. I could use some help with a ring name though…

Synopsis:

He scared me. He thrilled me. And after one touch, all I could think about was getting more…

The author’s daughter contacted me about reading one of her mom’s stories. She had offered up another one but this one caught my eye, probably because it involved a dog!  Jeanne Donnelly has 2 other short stories .  One is called Blood Aversions and the other is Betrayed by an Angel.

soul mates

Synopsis:

She was dying. Her life draining away on a hot city sidewalk and she gave it up willingly. Life had been hard and she was ready. With a jolt and a prayer she awakens in Heaven.

Through her flows all the joy and wonder of existence and she comes face to face with God. Overwhelmed, she begs to reincarnate to share this wonderful message of God’s unconditional love with those on earth. Will God give her this chance?

One thing before she goes, “Please,” she begs. “I want to be blond and petite and find my soul mate in this new life.”

Poof! She wakes up on earth as one of the smallest dogs on the planet!

Does God have a sense of humor or what?

Review:

What an emotional short story! A woman who falls into the grips of drugs and homelessness dies and asks God to come back as a petite blonde. What she failed to factor in is God’s sense of humor and she comes back as a Chihuahua. I wasn’t sure I was going to make it through the first bit because of an abusive man named George that mistreated the dog and called her Rat. But it takes a turn for the better and then bad again and then better. If you cannot handle reading books about dogs that are mistreated then DO NOT pick up this book. While it is such a small part, it did make my heart heavy to read about the abuse (even though fictional, we know it happens around us every day).

We give this 5 paws and it is not a long read at all.

Creating Chemistry

Well, a very wise person once told me that soul mates are two people who come together like puzzle pieces. Neither is perfect. In fact, one or both can be deeply flawed. However, their pieces somehow come together and mesh perfectly. If you stand back and examine your own personal relationships and you are honest, you can see this in your own partner. You’re each stronger because of the other. You complete each other. I also believe that two people who are too much the same will butt heads. So usually I like my FMC & MMC to be opposites in one way or another. It’s always fun to watch them be forced to compromise and meet halfway.

Creating the chemistry is different for each couple. They need to click. Each needs to make a lasting impression on the other, whether good or bad. The impression needs to stick so that days, weeks, maybe even months later they are still bubbling or cursing under their breath about it. I’ll take either. 😉 Then I build on that. If she wants to hate him, this will now become a challenge. Same goes for him because there will be one very redeeming quality that will suck the other person in. Then again I build on that. Their conversations have to be entertaining whether they’re romantic, mysterious (cryptic), or argumentative. There has to be something that, regardless of the topic of conversation, leaves both MCs and the reader wanting and waiting for them to talk to one another again.

All this and their body language go hand in hand: the tense stance when trying hard not to give into to doing or saying what they really want and the deep, intense uncontrollable gazes. The unforgettable ones give them (sometimes infuriatingly) the ever-present-in-romance-novels butterflies.

My husband often asks me as he passes by my desk and I’m writing, “What’s that goofy smile about?” That’s usually a good sign that the chemistry is working, because if I’m feeling the irrepressible need to smile like a goofball as I’m writing the dialogue, then we’re good. LOL. On a sidenote, building to that moment—creating that chemistry that will not be suppressed no matter how hard either side tries—is my favorite part of writing romance. =D

Release Date: September 3, 2013
Number of Pages: 304

Synopsis:

Unjustly accused of cooking the books, Maggie Grady is forced to retreat from her high-flying New York financial career to the town where she grew up. Her aunt Clara greets her with open arms and a job at the family-owned business that has baked the best pies in the South for over forty years. Unfortunately, while Maggie is determined to return to banking, her reputation there seems permanently in the pits. That is, until her old boss, Lou, visits with news that he’s found the real crook. Before he can reveal the details, though, Maggie finds his body right behind the pie shop.

With only her own word that Lou planned to exonerate her, Maggie is in the spotlight. The police seem to suspect that Aunt Clara’s damson pie may not be just dangerously delectable, but downright deadly. Maggie doesn’t just have her own name to clear; she has to make sure that her aunt’s beloved business isn’t harmed, either. Yummy local reporter Ryan Summerour appears eager to help, and Maggie can’t help hoping that it’s not just the police who find her a person of interest—but Ryan, as well. She’d thought it challenging to make the perfect pie crust that Aunt Clara demands, but that turns out to be nothing compared with finding a murderer. . . .

Excerpt:

Aunt Clara and Uncle Fred had raised Maggie after her parents’ death in a car crash. They’d been there through high school and college when Maggie had worked right here at Pie in the Sky for spending money, dreaming her big dreams about the future.

“I could use a little more tea,” an intense young man with spiky, green-tinged brown hair yelled out.

“I’ll get it,” Maggie said. “How’s that mystery pie coming along? People are waiting for it. I think we’ve already had a hundred suggestions for names. It’s smart of you to introduce new pies that way. Good marketing.”

Aunt Clara shrugged her shoulders. Her unnaturally red hair was a little frizzier than usual. It looked like an orange fringe around her still pretty face. She looked like Maggie’s mother, with that red hair and green eyes. Maggie had inherited her father’s dark brown hair.

“It’s what I’ve always done. The kids like it. I never guessed when your uncle and I opened this pie shop forty years ago that I’d be here making pies without him.” Aunt Clara sighed. “But then things don’t always go the way you plan.”

You said a mouthful there. Maggie brought another small pot of hot water and a tea bag to the young man’s table.

He looked as though he was working on something important. He raked his hand through his hair again and spilled Amazing Apple pie on his black superhero T-shirt that had already seen better days. The table was covered with diagrams and charts.

“What are you working on?” She tried to be friendly. It wasn’t always easy. It had been different when she’d worked here and known most of the students. Now she felt a lot like their mother.

“None of your business,” he barked, protectively covering the documents. “I have tea now. Go away.”

“You don’t have to be rude. Didn’t anyone ever tell you that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar?”

He stared at her like she’d lost her mind.

Obviously not.

Review:

I love food and especially pie, so I was very excited to have a chance to read this book centered around a pie shop.  The pie names had me drooling all throughout the book, that’s for sure!  I thought this book had good characters that were pretty well developed for the first in a series.  I liked that there were a couple of storylines going on in this first book – Maggie losing her job, her boss dying after visiting her at the pie shop and the “big ugly” developer trying to purchase the property.  They all tied in well and while I had a sneaky suspicion who the killer was, I wasn’t 100% sure until that person was revealed.

This series is definitely going on my list of books to read and cannot wait to see what comes out with book 2!  We give this a solid 4 1/2 paws up and highly suggest checking out the book!
