Lost and found tourTour Schedule

Lost and Found by Karey White

Lydia was supposed to have an adventurous and exciting summer. Instead she’s done nothing more than read and eat takeout. Now it’s time to go home, and what does she have to show for it? A big fat nothing. Unless, of course, her trip to the airport somehow turns into something more than just a flight home.

Blake feels like he’s been sent on a wild goose chase. While work is piling up back in Denver, he’s on the other side of the country, hunting for some mysterious box that his grandfather left him. Well, no more. Nothing inside that box could possibly be more important than the opportunity to make it as the youngest partner at his firm. So he’s going home, and that’s that. But that’s before he discovers his flight has been cancelled.

When these two strangers meet at the airport, they make a split-second decision to search for the box together. Maybe with both of them on the hunt, Lydia can have her adventure and Blake can find the box. And maybe, if they’re lucky, they’ll even find some romance.

Review

This is another great installment in the Ripple Effect series. I have enjoyed several other books by Karey White and this one is no exception. Both Lindsay and Blake learned something about life from each other and I like how Blake realizes that there is more to life than just work.  Lydia may not have had her adventure during the summer but she sure got one during those few days with Blake.  A simple and sweet story that will remind that love can be found when you are least expecting it.

We give this 5 paws and if you are going to read this book, definitely get the whole Riffle Effect series!

Excerpt

When Lydia approached her seat a few minutes later, an airport security officer with a shiny face and a little paunch was standing in the aisle by her suitcase.

“Is this your bag?” he asked.

“Yes. Is everything okay?” Why hadn’t she paid attention to the voice in her head?

“It appeared to be left unattended. In the future, I’d advise you to either take your bag with you or move it closer to your boyfriend when you leave.”

Lydia shot a surprised glance at the movie star, and he shrugged. “Sorry, babe. I told him you’d be right back, and I offered to move your bag over by me, but he wanted me to wait for you to come back.”

Lydia almost choked. She knew he was just rescuing her from the security guard, but no one had ever, ever called Lydia “babe” before and certainly no one as handsome as Ryan Gosling. It had a wonderful ring to it. Was her racing heart because of being questioned by an officer of the law or because this man had just called her “babe?”

Lydia dragged her distracted gaze back to the much less interesting man standing by her bag. “I’m so sorry. I just had to make a little run to the ladies’ room. It won’t happen again.”

“See that it doesn’t. Airport security is no laughing matter.” Was she laughing? “Have a nice flight.”

Lydia sat down by her bag. “You should probably move over here by me since you’re my girlfriend. We don’t want to make him suspicious.”

“Oh. Of course. I should have thought of that.” Did the movie star want Lydia to sit by him? Lydia rolled her eyes at her silliness. He was just trying to keep from being hassled any further. He went back to working on his laptop as she moved her things across the aisle. “Sorry about that,” Lydia whispered.

“No problem.” He looked up from his computer and smiled. Oh. My. Wow! Up close his dimple was even cuter. The bigger the smile, the deeper the dimple. “Are you taking a trip to Denver?” he asked.

Prejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson Book Cover

Prejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson

After years of pinching pennies and struggling to get through art school, Emma Makie’s hard work finally pays off with the offer of a dream job. But when tragedy strikes, she has no choice but to make a cross-country move to Colorado Springs to take temporary custody of her two nieces. She has no money, no job prospects, and no idea how to be a mother to two little girls, but she isn’t about to let that stop her. Nor is she about to accept the help of Kevin Grantham, her handsome new neighbor, who seems to think she’s incapable of doing anything on her own.
Fun, compelling, and romantic, Prejudice Meets Pride is the story of a guy who thinks he has it all figured out and a girl who isn’t afraid to show him that he doesn’t. It’s about learning what it means to trust, figuring out how to give and to take, and realizing that not everyone gets to pick the person they fall in love with. Sometimes, love picks them.

Synopsis

Set in California’s Silicon Valley, STARTUP follows a young idealist/entrepreneur, Zack Penny, as he strives to achieve his dream of creating a new company that will launch an international revolution in technology through the creation of wallpaper-thin displays that will completely surround a viewer. Zack works for a highly successful company called Display Technik, run by CEO Allen Henley, whose vision is based on a success-at-all-costs philosophy.  Zack sees Henley as a mentor, but Zack’s philosophy favors high morals and values over Henley’s ruthless, end-justifies-the-means model of doing business.

Zack’s dream takes root one morning when he discovers an important paper has been taken from his office. Someone has exposed Zack’s secret plan to break away from Display Technik and start his own company. Henley gives Zack another chance to pledge his loyalty to the firm, but Zack resigns instead, more determined than ever to realize his vision. Soon, the optimistic if naive Zack steps into his new facility with high hopes for success. Henley, however, has already launched a plan to destroy Zack, his company, and Zack’s relationship with Henley’s daughter, Mary Anne.

Excerpt

Upon entering the mirrored-glass and stainless-steel lobby of DisplayTechnik, most people’s eyes were immediately drawn to the immense mobile hanging thirty feet overhead. It revolved ever so lazily, its burnished metal dazzling in the California sun. Ultrathin suspension cables concealed by the mosaic pattern on the wall behind the display created the illusion that the massive structure was simply hovering, perhaps by some trick of magnetism.

The mobile reminded Zack of scimitars and guillotine blades. As far as he was concerned, the truly magnificent work of art in the entrance way was the vast floor of highly polished black marble. Walking across it was like stepping into space: looking down at the pinpoints and streaks of glittering white, one strolled through the stars of the heavens, passing by galaxies, and the streamers of some gaseous nebula. Beneath the steel and glass homage to Allen Henley’s vanity was the constancy of the universe—immoveable, immutable, and terrible in its beauty. A plush burgundy carpet surrounded the receptionist’s area, which stood like an island in the sea of black.

Engineers like Zack weren’t supposed to use the main lobby entrance, and he didn’t most days, but it was only six thirty and any of the flock of senior vice presidents who might care if he were violating company protocol were probably still in bed. He usually got to work early, though not merely to avoid the crawl over Highway 680. He liked to take in the surroundings, soak them up, and breathe in the crisp, mechanically filtered air, knowing that one day his own company would never, ever look like this.

Review

At the time of my writing this review, I have not yet finished the book.  I had a death in the family so this past week has been a little crazy.  However, I am about 2/3 of the way through the book and I am really enjoying this book.  Allen is VERY easy to hate with the way he treats the people around him including his family.  Zack is a good guy but a little naive and idealistic.  While he doesn’t deserve what Allen is doing to him, he also has to realize that businesses are not “nice” or “fair”.  Mary Anne is very similar to Zack in her beliefs but at the same time has this blind loyalty to her father.

The book is well written (so far!) and it has me on the edge of my seat wondering how this story is going to play out.  I hope that perhaps Zack will find a way to bring Allen down, but not sure if that will happen or not.  It is also fascinating reading about potential technology of the future!

I give this book 4 1/2 paws and definitely suggest the book!  I’m sure I will finish it as you are reading this review……but no spoilers from me!

 Excerpt

My nervous energy was getting the better of me. I paced around the room. Exasperated, I asked, “What do you mean, what do I mean?  I will ask slowly. What… happened… at… dinner… TONIGHT?”

Marc patted the space next to him on the bed, gesturing for me to sit down, which I did, although I couldn’t stop my leg from bopping up and down.  Casually he replied, “Dinner was good, wasn’t it?  I loved my grouper.  How was your fish?”

I shook my head in disbelief. “Fish?  You’re asking me about the fish?  Have you completely lost your mind?”

He tried very hard to suppress his laughter.  “No, I didn’t lose my mind. You wanted to know what happened at dinner, didn’t you?  So I told you about my fish and asked you about yours. Isn’t that what people do? Did you want to know something else?”

Despite my frustration, I couldn’t help but laugh.  “Yes.  I want to talk about everything that happened except for the fish.”

“Something else happened?” he asked.

I sighed deeply.  “You are getting on my last nerve, mister!  Do you think you can be serious for a minute?”

“I don’t know, but I guess I can try.”

“Good, try hard. I need you to focus.  Can you please tell me what’s going on?  Why did you tell Eric and Jaye that we may be married by the summer?”

“Oh, that’s simple. Because we may be.”

 Synopsis

Discovering a brutally murdered boy in a rainy dog park sends misanthropic private detective Jane Ronson on a journey through Baltimore’s gritty underbelly. Aided by a sexy cop, a bad-ass bull terrier, and an only-in-Baltimore cast of characters, Jane must use her computer-hacking and street-fighting skills to save her only family member from being framed as the killer.

Review

This is a shorter story but it was well written and wrapped up nicely. Jane is a hard woman due to what her life was like growing up…but I see potential for a little softening in the future. At least I hope so. Jane is also a non-holds barred kind of person, she doesn’t take any flack from anyone and we learn a little about her growing up and what she had to endure. She also doesn’t seem to care about herself much, at least not her appearance or what others think of her. This is good and bad and it will be interesting to see how she is in the second book.

Synopsis

Private investigator Jane Ronson suffers from oppositional defiant disorder, the uncontrollable urge to punch first then ask questions later. When a rabbi with a shady past offers her a bag of cash to spy on a rival rabbi, Jane jumps at the chance to make what think will be easy money. To get her cash, Jane impersonates an Orthodox Jewish woman and infiltrates a black market kidney ring in Baltimore’s Orthodox community. Between Russian gangsters and double crosses, Jane is number one on everyone’s hit list. To save her life, she forms an alliance with a religious woman and confronts a family.

Review

This was an interesting follow up to Dog Park Murder. Jane has to go undercover in an Orthodox Jewish Community, which coincidently she discovers she is Jewish but had no idea. Anyway, Jane is still a tough character but is softening with Don in her life. While I’m sure this isn’t the case, I always felt like Jane was dirty/unclean because every time she mentioned taking a shower she was interrupted…made it seem like she never took one (which I’m sure is not the case at all).  There were some interesting twists at the end….just when you think the mystery is solved something new happens.  I’m not sure if there will be another novel but if there is I will be picking it up!

We gave this 5 paws as well.

Black Lotus Cover

Synopsis

Initially optioned as a screenplay, Black Lotus was subsequently selected as a semi-finalist in the Court TV nation-wide contest for best original mystery – a contest drawing more than 2,000 entries. The novel has since been labeled by more than one critic as “filmed noir in a book.”

Written in a unique style, Black Lotus diverts from traditional mystery and becomes something more like The Office TV show – except covered in blood. It uses a real-time technique with the camera always present, following the action and recording the characters as they speak.

The narrative: African American detective Lotus Williams is fired after the death of her young daughter pushes her into a downward spiral of cocaine use. An outstanding detective before her fall, Lotus is finally given another chance with a new police department, this time in New Parise – a city controlled by two drug cartels viciously battling for supremacy.

Meanwhile, a potentially “psychotic” investigative journalist believes that the powerful New Parise officials are behind much of the city’s illegal activity. Coincidentally obsessed with the gorgeous female Chief of Police, Francesca Corelli, this nosy journalist is fired from her newspaper and ordered to get out of town – or else.

It is within this mire of possible corruption and open gang-war that Lotus Williams has her second chance. But Lotus soon finds herself caught in a web of possible deceit and lies that quickly put her own life in danger.

The denouement is a total surprise, although clues are sprinkled liberally throughout the work so the astute reader may be able to solve the mystery.

The novel is slated for publication this summer. Excerpts from and pre-order forms for the novel are available at Treasure Chest Press. A contest whereby readers offer Black Lotus characters advice is now in full-swing. The most salient, practical advice will receive a $100 Amazon gift card. There is no entrance fee; and no solicitations will ensue because of initial entry.

Righting a wrong

Tour Schedule

Righting a Wrong by Rachael Anderson

Seven years ago, Cambri Blaine fled her small hometown of Bridger, Colorado after her senior year ended in a fiasco. Only Jace Sutton knew the real reason why—that she was a spineless coward. Now, seven years later, her father’s been in an accident and needs help, and Cambr has no choice but to return home. So with trepidation, she takes a leave of absence from the landscape architecture firm where she works and boards a plane, hoping against hope that Jace is no longer around and that the past can stay where it belongs—in the past.

If only life worked that way.

Jace never expected to see Cambri again. After she’d led him on, bruised his heart, and left town without a backward glance, he was forced to pick up the pieces and try not to hate her for it. Eventually, he put it behind him and moved on, creating a life for himself in his beloved hometown. But now that Cambri is back and looking more beautiful and sophisticated than ever, some of those old feelings resurface, and Jake instinctively knows, for the sake of his heart, that he needs to avoid her at all costs.

If only it were that easy.

Review

I loved this novella! 3rd in a series and just a sweet, clean romance story. I like how Jace and Cambri have a history together and they denied what they had all those years ago, but will they find out if the chemistry between them is forever?

This whole series has been good and I’m anxiously waiting book 4 which is Lydia’s story.

Synopsis

Jason knows what he wants out of life, even if he can’t see it.

Like most people, Jason’s looking for that elusive happily-ever-after. But although he’s good-looking, athletic, funny and charming–he’s starting to realize that his white cane isn’t exactly a chick magnet. When he meets Heather, he can’t believe such a sweet, smart, beautiful woman is falling for him. Best of all, she doesn’t seem bothered by his occasional run-in with a low-hanging tree branch or inability to color coordinate. They soon become inseparable. But as they begin to negotiate their life together, they encounter obstacles even his white cane can’t navigate.

While Jason’s dreams seem to be slipping from his grasp, he’s forced to face his insecurities and accept who he is…and maybe see things more clearly than ever before.

Love in Sight is a novel about coming to terms with what you can live with and what you can’t live without.

Review

Enjoyed this story – Heather and Jason meet during graduate classes at the university. However, Jason is blind – but that doesn’t stop him from meeting Heather and asking her out. They fall in love (wouldn’t be a romance without that!) and decide to get married. However, they both have some adjusting to do. Jason has to realize that not everyone is as “perfect” as he is and to bend to his “rules”/way of life takes adjustment. He is used to it since he has been blind since age 12.

Many times during this book I wanted to shake Jason and tell him to grow up, that not everything is always about him and that for Heather to change her lifestyle to accommodate him was a sign of true love. Plus a short temper wasn’t good for anyone.

there is a tragedy near the end but it is the catalyst that helps Jason over that hump.

Another good book by Holly and we give it 4 paws
