 Synopsis

Discovering a brutally murdered boy in a rainy dog park sends misanthropic private detective Jane Ronson on a journey through Baltimore’s gritty underbelly. Aided by a sexy cop, a bad-ass bull terrier, and an only-in-Baltimore cast of characters, Jane must use her computer-hacking and street-fighting skills to save her only family member from being framed as the killer.

Review

This is a shorter story but it was well written and wrapped up nicely. Jane is a hard woman due to what her life was like growing up…but I see potential for a little softening in the future. At least I hope so. Jane is also a non-holds barred kind of person, she doesn’t take any flack from anyone and we learn a little about her growing up and what she had to endure. She also doesn’t seem to care about herself much, at least not her appearance or what others think of her. This is good and bad and it will be interesting to see how she is in the second book.

We give this 5 paws

Synopsis

Private investigator Jane Ronson suffers from oppositional defiant disorder, the uncontrollable urge to punch first then ask questions later. When a rabbi with a shady past offers her a bag of cash to spy on a rival rabbi, Jane jumps at the chance to make what think will be easy money. To get her cash, Jane impersonates an Orthodox Jewish woman and infiltrates a black market kidney ring in Baltimore’s Orthodox community. Between Russian gangsters and double crosses, Jane is number one on everyone’s hit list. To save her life, she forms an alliance with a religious woman and confronts a family.

Review

This was an interesting follow up to Dog Park Murder. Jane has to go undercover in an Orthodox Jewish Community, which coincidently she discovers she is Jewish but had no idea. Anyway, Jane is still a tough character but is softening with Don in her life. While I’m sure this isn’t the case, I always felt like Jane was dirty/unclean because every time she mentioned taking a shower she was interrupted…made it seem like she never took one (which I’m sure is not the case at all).  There were some interesting twists at the end….just when you think the mystery is solved something new happens.  I’m not sure if there will be another novel but if there is I will be picking it up!

We gave this 5 paws as well.
