Life has never been easy for Emmy London.  Raised in foster homes, she learned to never get too comfortable, to never let anyone in.  When her classmate, Chloe Oliver, disappeared at the tender age of five, so did she.  From that moment on, life was never the same. She kept a secret and kept her distance from everyone.

With the twentieth anniversary of Chloe’s disappearance looming, Mr. Oliver sought Emmy’s assistance, asking her to revisit the past in order to give him the closure he so desperately needed.  As a private investigator, she was accustomed to facing unpleasant situations and sifting through others’ lives.  Unfortunately, this time to do that, she had to face her own.

Soon, she herself is being followed.  A handsome stranger insinuates himself in her life.  Everything she believed and thought she knew is called into question beginning with…can she turn her curse into a gift?

Her mission is clear, her destination is to be determined.

J.B. McGee was born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina.  She is the mother of two beautiful children and a stay at home mom/entrepreneur. She finished her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of South Carolina-Aiken in 2006. During her time studying children’s literature, a professor had encouraged her to become a writer.
In 2011 it was discovered that both of her children and her husband have Mitochondrial Disease, a disease that has no cure or treatments. Being a writer allows J.B. to remain close to her family, work on raising awareness for this disease and to lose herself in the stories that she creates for her fans.
J.B. McGee and her family now reside in Buford, Georgia.  She is an Amazon Top 100 bestselling author of her debut series, the ‘THIS’ Series.

She is represented by Stacey Donaghy with Donaghy Literary Group. Her books can be found on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, Apple, and Smashwords in ebook, paperback, and even some audiobooks. The German translation for her debut novel, Broken, will be available July 1, 2014, through Amazon Crossing.

Nicole Andrews Moore has been an author since 2011, but it was after the birth of her daughter, Kenna in January of 2012, that she was determined to make it a full-time career.  As the fourth smallest preemie in the world, Kenna’s medical needs would prevent her from ever going to day care.  A fan introduced her to JB McGee, who became her mentor and best friend.  They have been working together ever since, but The Traveler Series is their first collaboration.
For fun, she spends time with those she cares about, cooks, reads, writes, and especially lives to travel. The current travel goal: visit every Margaritaville. Three down! (Eleven to go?)
Her writing can also be found on Shine, where she is a Shine Parenting Guru and an award winning Yahoo! Contributor on YourWisdom as the relationship and dating expert. In addition, she has been published by McClatchy News in their syndicated papers.

Her books can be found on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, Apple, and Smashwords in ebook, paperback, and even some audiobooks.

Synopsis

Traveling secretary and dilettante detective Hattie Davish is bringing her talents to a small New England town whose wealthy residents have more secrets than they do money. . .

When Hattie Davish’s job takes her to Newport, Rhode Island, she welcomes the opportunity for a semi-vacation, and perhaps even a summer romance. But her hopes for relaxation are dashed when she learns that members of the local labor unions are at odds with Newport’s gentry. Amidst flaring tensions, an explosion rocks the wharf. In the ensuing turmoil, Mr. Harland Whitwell, one of Newport’s most eminent citizens, is found stabbed to death, his hands clutching a strike pamphlet. All signs point to a vengeful union member bent on taking down the aristocracy, but Hattie starts digging and finds a few skeletons in the closets of the impeccable Whitwell mansion. As she strikes down the whispers spilling out of Newport’s rumor mill, she’ll uncover a truth more scandalous than anyone imagined–and a killer with a rapacious sense of entitlement.

Review

I really enjoyed this book especially the time period. People seemed so much more civilized…well other than people ending up dead! The author does a great job of researching the location and time period and it made me feel like I was there with them and living in that time period.  I like seeing how Hattie’s life is so different than many women during that time period, but not too different than most women today.  She is a no-nonsense kind of woman with her eyes set on being the best she can be but yet looking for love at the same time.

Definitely a great series and we give it 4 paws up!

Unstoppable

Unstoppable by S.R. Johannes

After everything that has happened, Grace goes to the Everglades to live with her grandmother, Birdee. Even though she is now home-schooled by her bird-obsessed grandmother, the move gives Grace time to relax. She learns to scuba dive and starts boating with old man Rex, Birdee’s casual friend/boyfriend.
One day while out in the marshes of the Everglades, Grace rescues an abused Florida panther, currently on the endangered list. The more she dives into the animal’s horrific condition, the more she ventures into the underground world of the roadside zoos that run rampant in Florida with a total disregard for the law. Eventually, she stumbles upon one large roadside zoo filled with a variety of endangered and illegal animals.
Before she can gather evidence and report her findings to the authorities, she is kidnapped by the ruthless owner and dragged deep into the Everglades for a hunting challenge. Only this time, Grace is the prey.
During a sick game of cat and mouse, Grace is offered one chance at survival. With a one-hour head start and very little supplies, time and skill are now all that stands between the hunter and the hunted.

Review

I enjoyed this book, it was a fun read!  I think this is the first time I have read a cozy where the amateur sleuth is a romance writer.  I loved her name too, Stormi, it just sounds like she should be a romance writer.  The story flows along nicely with some clues given about the neighbors and who the killer might be, but I didn’t figure it out until the end when it was revealed.  I don’t think I even had any suspicions as to whodoneit.  There is a love story between Stormi and Matt, the police detective, but it is very G rated.

I think this could be a good series going forward and I look forward to reading more by this author.  We give this book 4 paws up!

My book club met today and we discussed Unbroken by author Laura Hillenbrand.  This books makes for good discussion since not a lot is written about the war in the Pacific during WWII.  If you read this for a book club, there are some good discussion questions on the author’s website.  Not all of us had finished the book (I will admit I wasn’t sure I was going to make it through the first 100 pages!) but all of us had read at least half the book.  I plan to finish it up over the next day before picking up some new books for other blog tours.

unbroken

Synopsis

On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared. It was that of a young lieutenant, the plane’s bombardier, who was struggling to a life raft and pulling himself aboard. So began one of the most extraordinary odysseys of the Second World War.

The lieutenant’s name was Louis Zamperini. In boyhood, he’d been a cunning and incorrigible delinquent, breaking into houses, brawling, and fleeing his home to ride the rails. As a teenager, he had channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that had carried him to the Berlin Olympics and within sight of the four-minute mile. But when war had come, the athlete had become an airman, embarking on a journey that led to his doomed flight, a tiny raft, and a drift into the unknown.

goodreads-badge-add-plus

Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, a foundering raft, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion. His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would be suspended on the fraying wire of his will.

In her long-awaited new book, Laura Hillenbrand writes with the same rich and vivid narrative voice she displayed in Seabiscuit. Telling an unforgettable story of a man’s journey into extremity, Unbroken is a testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit.
