Review
The book started off interesting…a reporter is finally going to get his due but his source Lorna, a young woman involved with a “big wig”, has ended up dead. The “big wig” is the Deputy Prime Minister of England, Charles. Of course he is married, but when does that ever stop people from having affairs? There is a flashback to how they met and then back to the present (6 months later) when Lorna’s twin sister, Laurie shows up and believes her sister didn’t commit suicide and wants Charles help her figure out who killed her.
Then the book seemed to hit a lag right after Lorna’s death. Charles seems to be in a funk and thought about their times together, but it seemed to drag on a bit. Then enter Laurie, the twin. Their interaction at first was rather strained and tense and rather odd. Of course, Charles’ assistant, Faye, didn’t help matters. She knew about the affair he was having and thought this was more of the same.
The story continued on and finally in the last two chapters the story really hit a high point and kept me engaged until the very end. I was very surprised at the ending, definitely did not see this one coming.
Overall we give it 3 1/2 paws. I might have given it 4 paws if it hadn’t been for the dragging in the beginning.
