Excerpt

I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, then described the scene to him to the best of my recollection. I could almost envision the restroom as it had been when I entered. The white sinks, the gray and white swirly wall tiles, and the open stall doors. Seemingly empty, until I approached the end stall.

It all came back to me and I started to tremble. “Hilary was laying on the floor, on her side, her hair falling into that pool of blood. Shockingly red and dark in contrast to the cool gray of the ceramic floor tiles.” Something wasn’t right, “Something bright green in her hair?”

Review

This was a surprisingly good mystery. I’m not 100% sure it is a cozy because the main character, Adina, isn’t actively trying to solve the case, she just happens to be doing some things that put her in places where she hears things about her friend Hannah’s murder. Plus she always passes along the info to the detective in charge…who is attractive and interested in her too.

And what story wouldn’t be complete without a love triangle. Not only do we have Detective Saks interested in Adina, but there is also Bruce who volunteers at the same dog shelter and is very handsome. Adina is definitely interested in him.

I don’t want to give away the mystery (and I won’t) but it is definitely not anything you would be expecting, or maybe you will based on some of what Adina discovers.  I wasn’t sure who to think who Hannah’s killer was, there were some red herrings to throw you off on another track but the ending will surprise you…or maybe not!

We give it 4 paws and if there is another in this series, then I will be looking for the book.
