Synopsis

Beacon news reporter Lindsey Fox is on the verge of breaking a huge story of political corruption that will make her career and make her famous journalist parents proud—or she could be thrown in jail and fired. It really could go either way.

Her recent streak of bad luck continues when Lindsey finds herself facing a bogus contempt charge—and attorney Ben Gillespie is appointed to get her out of the slammer. They once had a bad date of epic proportions—stilted conversation, food poisoning, burglary, towed car. Then there was the incident with the pepper spray. Lindsey never believed she’d see the sexy lawyer again.

Ben can totally believe that Lindsey is behind bars. The woman is trouble. Now he has to get his new client out of jail, keep her out of the grasp of a crazed bike messenger and a shady P.I., help her save her job, and convince her to put down the pepper spray and give him another chance.

Review

Wow, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat! Lindsay is a reporter trying to make her own way without relying on her parent’s notoriety as journalists. Ben is a lawyer that really doesn’t like what he is doing at the large corporate law firm. They had some history together, a single date that didn’t go well. But that doesn’t stop these two from starting over on the romance front and Ben helping Lindsay understand what she is reporting on – after all municipal bonds are not easy to understand! What they don’t expect is the corruption they find in City Hall and other places – can’t reveal too much and give away some of the twists and turns this story takes you on.

I like that this book focuses mostly on the suspense and while there is some romance it is not graphic or often. I like the tension of what could happen, perhaps when Lindsay isn’t being stalked!  The characters are interesting and somewhat complex – plenty of characters to love and hate!  There was also humor mixed in with the intrigue and suspense, balanced the story out nicely.

I can see this turning into a series – or at least more books where Lindsay is uncovering some crime or Ben takes on a case that isn’t your norm.

We give this 5 paws up.
