Synopsis
Katie Stillwell focuses on two things in her life: work and practicing for her Sommelier Certification with her blind tasting group. The exam was supposed to be the hardest part of her week, but that was before a body was found at an exclusive Napa Valley winery party.
When all the evidence points to Katie’s best friend, the outspoken and independent Tessa, Katie drops everything to clear Tessa’s name. Using her deductive wine skills, she tries to track down the real killer. But when repeated attempts are made on her life, Katie discovers that everyone’s secrets must be uncorked―including her own.
Review
I LOVED this book…ok, maybe because it has to do with wine and the wine country in California, but it was also a very engaging book with several twists and turns that I didn’t see coming…especially when the killer is revealed.
Each chapter lists a different kind of wine and what a good pairing might be for that particular wine. I had not heard of some of these varietals so I learned something as well. I might be seeking out a different kind of wine next time I am looking for something new.
Katie does have some burdens she is carrying in regards to her friend Tessa, but she does come clean about the past which I think only strengthens her friendship with Tessa.
The conversations between various characters are engaging, and even witty at other times. There is a love interest or two for Katie to spice things up.
This was very enjoyable and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series, but I’m going to have to wait a bit. We give it 5 paws up

@Brooke Banks — While I’ve always been sensitive to spicy food, it really comes down to training the palate. When I was studying for my exams, I would go to the supermarket and smell fruits and make a point of remembering their scents, etc. My wine journey began in 2010 when I was at a food and wine festival and was suddenly put on a wine panel. It sparked a desire to learn more and I became a Certified Sommelier the following year.
@Dianne Casey — Thank you so much!

So, this probably sounds like a lame question, but how did you get into wine and become a Certified Sommelier? Do you have that super palette going on? As someone who has a hard time identifying different tastes it sounds fascinating. It’s a language I’ll never learn.

This sounds like a great book. I like wine and would enjoy reading about a sommelier.
