Synopsis

Killer songs and a killer voice land Vy in yet another melodic murder mystery. Interlude Records has signed Vy to a long-anticipated record deal after years of rejections, but she never thought that murder would be part of the deal. Now, Vy finds herself, yet again, at the center of a murder investigation that may change the course of her music career.

It seems that someone doesn’t want Vy to record her album, and is doing everything to sabotage the release date, including murdering a key member of the production team. So Vy and her sister, Alexia, are back at it again—detecting in their own way. This time they’re using their quick-witted banter, and super sleuthing skills to ensure that Vy’s record makes it to the Billboard Top 100 list before the murderer makes it to the Miami Beach Police Department’s most wanted list.

They say the music industry is cutthroat, but Vy has never taken that statement literally. Could this be the strum of Vy’s guitar playing her last note IN THE KEY OF DEAD?

Guest Post

I am named after my beautiful mother. I am the youngest of six. I was born into art. My mother is an amazing artist, composer, and musician. I remember sitting on the couch watching my mom’s fingers move graciously throughout the piano keys. It was mesmerizing for me. My mom taught me to play the piano when I was 12 years old. From then on, my love for music began, but my love was not for the piano, my love was simply listening to the music.

I am a storyteller in my song-writing. I am inspired by musicians like Rob Thomas, Pink and Jewel. I had a few lessons on my first, used and worn-out classical guitar, and started combining my own original poetry with some basic guitar melodies. That was the result of my debut album, “Train Ride.” As an independent artist, I have released an EP called “Little Box of Secrets.” My latest self-produced singles, Savannah and Bulletproof Queen, takes one on a journey from one extreme to the other.

Although the journey has been challenging, I am not ready to stop showing the people the world through my eyes. My lyrics portray the different journeys my life has taken me through; heartache, hardships, falling in love, and happiness. I want the people to feel what I felt, to see what I have seen, and to know what I have learned. I want my music to be the window to my soul for the world to peek in. It is more than just listening to the songs; it is breathing in the words. But my journey did not stop there.

I then decided to take my musical experiences and put it on paper. I published my first novel, through Cozy Cat Press, The Last Note: A Miami Music Mystery. Thanks to the success of my debut novel, I have once again, brought my characters back to life, in the sequel, In the Key of Dead: A Miami Music Mystery. I have currently started the third novel to the series. The novels appeal not only to those readers who love a good murder mystery coupled with humor, but ones who wish to become familiar with the world of a musical talent trying her best to come up through the ranks of bars to superstardom.

The process of arriving to where I am today, may sound smooth and straight-forward, but it was anything but. Musically, it has not been easy. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way. I was signed to an independent record label. I was naive back then, and I trusted too much. When I released my first CD, Train Ride, it was through the record label. I couldn’t really call it my baby, although the lyrics and the music were my stories, my journeys. I had no say when it came to producing it.

Throughout the five years that I was signed to that label, it became a battle that facilitated my loss in my positive energy. And after the contract expired, I had lost faith in myself. Luckily, I have my family, especially my mother and father (an angel now). They encouraged me to not give up on my dreams. To keep writing, to keep singing, to keep believing in myself. And although it was a struggle, because, in the end, I was the one who had to choose to get back up, I did get back up.

Then, I was able to record my EP record, Little Box of Secrets, and that was my baby. But my artistic journey does not stop there. I decided to push myself, a bit further and I choose to write a novel, a murder mystery novel, to be exact. Once completed and edited, I proposed my first novel to the writing world. One that I was very new to. I know the music world like the back of my hand, but when it came to publishers, and a writer, and all the elements in between, that was a completely different league. I received so many rejection letters that I was on the verge of not sending out any more query letters.

Then I attended a book signing for one of my favorite authors. Fortunately for me, and unfortunately for her, I was the only person that attended the signing. I was able to sit with her for an hour and talk about my novel and the hardships. She said to me, “give yourself a deadline of a year before you resort to self-publishing. Do not give up just yet.”

So, when I left that signing, I calendared a year from that date. In six months, my novel was picked up by Cozy Cat Press. Since then, it has been an amazing ride, of learning, self-discovery, and excitement. I can’t wait to complete book three of the series. And I am happy to say that I have also started writing a psychological thriller. I wanted to experiment outside the cozy genre into more of an intense genre. I love challenging myself, and I love to step out of my comfort zone. To me, that’s living! As Tom Hank’s character said in A Legue of Their Own, “If it were easy, everybody would do it. Hard is what makes it great.”

About the Author

The Miami Music Mystery series’ main backdrop, the amazing city of Miami, Florida, is beloved and well-known to me. I was born and raised in Miami, and like the novel’s main character Vy, I am a singer/songwriter, Grammy-considered, independent artist. All things relating to music or literature are my passion.

Many years ago, I became an avid reader of cozy mysteries. The storylines were intriguing, engaging, and funny at the same time. I was so inspired by the authors, that I then decided to take my musical experiences, and put it on paper. I published my first novel, The Last Note, a Miami Music Mystery. Now, I have brought my characters back to life, in the sequel, In the Key of Dead, a Miami Music Mystery. The phobias, the dream sequences, and the quirkiness of the main characters, are all based on facts. I hope that I was able to, once again, show the readers of my novels, the love I have for Miami, the Cuban culture, my family, and music.

Synopsis

When murder invades Haydn’s opera stage, scandal isn’t far behind . . .

Charged with ensuring that an imperial wedding transpires without mishap, composer Joseph Haydn has his hands full. Barely seventeen, Archduke Ferdinand Karl, the imperial bridegroom, is reluctant to marry. And the bride, Maria Beatrice, has her reservations as well.

But when an extortion note surfaces—an unpleasant reminder of the bridegroom’s shameful past—the wedding seems truly doomed. Worse still, all the evidence points to Haydn’s prima donna, Lucia Pacelli, being the blackmailer.

Before Haydn can confront her, however, Lucia is fatally poisoned. And Haydn is left to wonder whether his imperial charge had a hand in her death.

Troubled by the dark secrets he might uncover, Haydn is nevertheless compelled to investigate. Will the young Archduke be found innocent? Or must Haydn lead His Imperial Highness to the gallows?

Excerpt

With his prima donna, a possible blackmailer, dead, Haydn’s suspicions immediately veer toward Archduke Ferdinand. But there are other people who wanted to rid the world of Lucia as well.

Luigi was in the midst of playing an extended cadenza when Haydn returned to the orchestra pit. The Konzertmeister must have seen him out of the corner of his eyes, for he immediately turned to face Haydn, his eyebrows raised expectantly.

Anxious to share the awful news, Haydn approached him just as Luigi gracefully transitioned from the cadenza to the sinfonia that would open the next act.

Bending down, he quickly conveyed the news.

“Dead!” Luigi hissed, gripping his bow tightly. “How can that be? A young woman, untroubled by any serious maladies?”

Haydn shrugged, expressing his own doubts on the subject.

“Worse still, Narcissa insisted on being given her part, adamant that Lucia had brought her predicament upon herself.”

Luigi’s lips pursed, but he fortunately stopped himself mid-whistle. “You don’t think she had . . .?” His voice trailed off as his hazel eyes searched Haydn’s features.

“I know not what to think,” Haydn responded grimly.

Although suspecting Narcissa of having a hand in Lucia’s unfortunate demise was far preferable to entertaining suspicions of the only other culprit that came to mind.

He returned to his place, his gaze traveling toward the audience where the Archduke sat next to his bride.

Synopsis

It’s 1967, the Summer of Love. When twenty-one-year-old guitarist Stephen Cane’s promising band falls apart, he is forced to move back home with his Christian mother. Unwilling to give up on his rock and roll dreams, however, Stephen flees to New York so he can patch things up with his former friend and bandmate, Dylan John, a pioneer of psychedelic rock whose band is on the verge of making it big. When Dylan unexpectedly quits Red Afternoon to be a civil rights activist, Stephen is handed the opportunity of a lifetime.

Lured into the trappings and pitfalls of celebrity and confronted with a dangerous secret, Stephen spirals into self-doubt and misplaced loyalties. Against the backdrop of a nation in turmoil, Stephen questions his dreams, his parents’ loyalties to a bygone era, his inability to choose wisely in love, and the unfortunate legacy of racial discrimination.

We Are All Together addresses a nation struggling with its mythological past and the effects it has had on the integrity of the individual. Does the artist owe the world anything? Does the ailing world need another rock star?

Review

When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure that I was going to like it. I didn’t feel like I could relate since this all happened before I was born. I only know what I have seen or heard about music in the 60s and the peace, love, and drug lifestyle.

However, once I delved further into the book, I found that it was more than just the music scene, but also a look into civil rights as things were changing at that time. Some were against integration and treated those who didn’t believe the way they did as traitors.

The story does focus on a few main characters, but mostly Stephen Cane. He played with several bands and one Arthur Devane or Dylan John. Dylan was a musical genius, at least with his lyrics, but he seemed to enjoy theatrics a bit more. We know the 60s as the hippie era, and this book embodies that mentality and way of life – from drug use, alcohol, parties, clothing, and music. Stephen gets caught up in this despite trying to avoid getting hooked on drugs. While he has good intentions, he isn’t strong enough to say no or follow the path that he says he wants. He admits his weaknesses, and we know where he wants to go with his life, but how determined is he to get there?

I enjoyed the weaving of musicians, musical groups, and known people (Goldie Hawn is mentioned) into this story. It enabled me to be pulled more into the story and empathize with the characters and their life choices.

A surprisingly good book that we give 4 paws up.

When concert pianist Vivienne Mourdant’s father dies, he leaves to her the care of a patient at Hurstwell Asylum. Vivienne had no idea the woman existed, and yet her portrait is shockingly familiar. When the asylum claims she was never a patient there, Vivienne is compelled to discover what happened to the figure she remembers from childhood dreams.

The longer she lingers in the deep shadows and forgotten towers at Hurstwell, the fuzzier the line between sanity and madness becomes. She hears music no one else does, receives strange missives with rose petals between the pages, and untangles far more than is safe for her to know.

But can she uncover the truth about the mysterious woman she seeks? And is there anyone at Hurstwell she can trust with her suspicions?

Joanna Davidson Politano casts a delightful spell with this lyrical look into the nature of women’s independence and artistic expression during the Victorian era–and now.

This book is one that touched my soul. Despite the dreariness of the setting, it is inspirational and uplifting.

I love well told historical novels, and this one is no exception. While based on some facts, such as who was put into asylums and why, it is purely fictional. I have read several books that are set in asylums, and it is heartbreaking to think of how they were treated, or not treated, 100+ years ago. People were often put into asylums for things that the doctors didn’t understand, such as depression, epilepsy, and so much more. But that is how things were in the 1800s; medicine was still evolving.

In this story, we meet Vivienne, a concert pianist, who has just lost her father and discovered that there wasn’t much left of his estate except for someone named Rose, that was in the Hurstwell Asylum, and he was paying for her care. But attempts to discover who this person is and why her father was paying for her care were met with opposition from the staff. They claimed they had no idea who she was talking about. This leads Vivienne to go undercover to uncover the truth. What she finds is deplorable, and things continue to go south for her when she is locked up as a patient in this asylum.

There are so many inspirational characters that, despite their situation, continue to be a beacon of light for Vivienne and those around them. They lift each other up in times of despair and sorrow and want what is best for everyone. Other characters are closed-minded, and I think they have become frustrated with the job, which is understanding. The conditions are deplorable, and because of the century, modern medicine is not ready for all of these issues.

What fascinated me was the beginnings of music therapy in this story. Music touches everyone’s soul in one form or fashion, and it was heartwarming to see how it opened up some of the patients they thought to be a lost cause. Music is in everything. We just have to be open to hearing it.

There is even a little bit of romance in this novel. Because of the era, it is very mild, but we see a relationship developing between Vivienne and Dr. Turner. Will it continue, or is it two people caught in a situation that holds them hostage for different reasons?

This book held me captive, and I did not want to put it down or the book to end. There is so much growth due to the situations that the characters were embroiled in that it might make one take a look at their own life.

We give this book 5 paws up.

Review

I was captivated by the subject of Ben’s thesis – an integrated band in the mid-60s whose end came too soon after the lead singer and guitarist is found dead in a fire and the drummer is presumed to have either perished in the same fire or started the fire that took the life of the leader of the band.

This story has several different plot lines that are loosely tied together by Ben and Nina. They previously dated but he decided she was a bit much when he learned she could hear her dog speak to her. He actually suggested that she see a therapist. This doesn’t bode well for their relationship.

I found the research that Ben was doing fascinating and what it takes to seek out details for someone that died many years ago and the family is hard to find. But he hits jackpot with Foxy, a photographer that has a lot of photos of this group during that time. I found myself caught up in the research and the story of this band, even though fictional.

I liked how the story alternated between Ben and Nina and what they were going through post-breakup between family and trying to get their lives back on track. More details are shared as the story progresses and I had a better understanding of the characters and what they were thinking and feeling about themselves and their lives.

I think I would have enjoyed this story even it was only about Ben searching for more information about the Honeybirds and uncovering the truth.

We give this book 4 paws up.

Review

I was given a subscription to Live All in for 2019 and WOW sums up how I feel about this subscription box/series.  I don’t normally do these, but this one just blows me away.  The song that is written for each month along with the lyrics, sheet music (for all those musicians), coloring page, song study guide, and frameable graphics that share a message that we all need to hear.

I have really enjoyed the different songs and the song study really makes me think about my life and if I am leading it in the right way.  Some of the questions for December include asking about our greatest strengths, overcoming fear, and forgiveness.  There are even Bible verses that tie to the study and the song.  Each song study is 5-6 pages and features some beautiful illustrations to tie everything together.

For those that are musicians or sing, each month you can download the lyrics, sheet music, and even mp3 files with instrumental or background voices.  There is even an app where you can download each of the mp3 files and listen to them at your leisure without having to be in front of the computer.

I enjoy coloring at times, so the coloring sheets are a nice way to relax but still thinking about that month’s message.  The frameable printables are a reminder of that month’s lessons are the illustrations and colors set off the thought nicely.

I have really enjoyed the works by Hilary Weeks and highly recommend checking it out for yourself.

We give this 5 paws up.

Chapter 49

Jacobs sat in her office late at night, listening to the political debate through a radio broadcast on her internet browser. She continued to search for Diana’s detractors as the debate raged in the background, getting more heated with each statement. There was never a mention of policy or any real tactical explanation of either candidate’s intentions. The moderator had lost complete control, and the scene had devolved into a frenzy of personal attacks and one-liners.

“The reality is that my opponent represents the old way of doing things, and I represent the new. We will not see the kind of change this state needs until we accept that,” Diana said, directing her diatribe toward current California Governor Thomas Brown.

She continued. “I’m interested in rescuing our citizens from the nightmare that men like Thomas Brown have built around us. He and his cigar buddies sit in dark rooms cutting deals that systematically assault the weakest members of this state, and I am sick of watching his incompetence ruin the lives of so many great Americans. It is time for real change. It is time to elect someone who understands what real people need.”

Governor Thomas Brown retorted, “Inheriting a multibillion-dollar fortune from your family does not make you an expert on what people need. It’s laughable to pretend you know something about people when you have never held a real job or lifted a finger doing real work in your entire life. I started a small business. I’ve worked menial jobs. I know what it’s like to feel the pressures of poverty.”

“That is precisely what makes me more qualified than you,” Diana interjected. “Good genetics. There is absolutely no reason to have people born into poor families governing other people. If your family was competent, they wouldn’t have been poor. You have had to accept dozens of donations from foreign governments and businesses just to fund your campaign, and you have sold out your loyalty to this country by doing so. I’m self-funding my campaign, so I am beholden to no one but myself.”

Governor Brown scoffed. “Which means you will run an administration to profit no one but yourself. Your advisors are the ones who keep your ventures afloat while you’re off being a professional socialite without any concept of what the real world is like. You have no idea what it means to be self-reliant, which is why the plan you have put forward is so fundamentally flawed.” He turned his attention to the audience. “She wants to take away sovereignty from every citizen in our state with her backwards policies. To be honest, I think she has some type of serious personality disorder, which I think is evident in the fact that she can’t keep a man around long enough to get married.”

“Do you see this? That’s sexism, and it’s about time women stood up against this type of abuse. Let’s add this statement to your long list of microaggressions against women. I think this is a great stage for you to publicly address the sexual misconduct charges being made against you.”

Thomas Brown exploded. “Those are absolute blatant lies manufactured by your propaganda machine! I am not a sexist. I would say the same thing to you if you were a single man. It’s absurd to assume a rejection of authoritarianism is racist or sexist simply because the person pursuing that authoritarian agenda is a minority or a woman.

“We need real leadership. We need decent people in power who speak truth. Whether they are men or women, white or black, poor or rich is inconsequential. What we absolutely do not need are lying, fearmongering, identity politicians using every small difference of socioeconomic status, race, and gender to divide the populace against each other so fascist nut jobs can take away the civil liberties of all people just to satisfy their shortsighted and infantile pursuit of power. This woman has never held elected office, and she didn’t even create her own wealth. She is barely competent enough to run a company, let alone a state.”

Diana blasted back, “I have absolute confidence in my ability to rule with wisdom and intellect, which are two things your governorship has lacked since the day you took office.”

“Do you hear that?” Governor Brown said. “She wants to rule you. She sees you as her subjects, her playthings. Her manipulation of the system demonstrates she is morally bankrupt, and I refuse to let her bring about this insanity to the state of California.”

Jacobs monitored the internet’s reaction to the debate on the social media branch of the Paragon app. The list of profiles using the violent keywords she’d targeted was growing steadily and was now in the thousands.

Jacobs was recording the audio from the debate into her media software. Her editing skills were excellent, and she could form entirely new sentences by combining separate pieces of Thomas Brown’s speech.

She took individual words, adjusting their tone and inflection using several advanced audio scrubbing techniques to compile a list of inflammatory statements sounding as though they were uttered from Thomas Brown’s mouth:

“Poor black people are fundamentally flawed.”

“Poor men are inconsequential.”

“We need to take away the civil liberties of all people.”

“You have no concept of what it means to be self-reliant, because you are a woman.”

A prerecorded attack ad had been produced by Diana’s campaign. It contained a voiceover playing atop a selection of patriotic stock photos: “Thomas Brown isn’t fit to serve as governor. His old way of doing things is holding back our state. Can you bring yourself to vote for someone who says this?” Then she added Thomas Brown’s falsified statements to create the perfect attack ads.

Using a group of fake Paragon pages she’d set up the week before, Jacobs sent the following ads to extremely specific demographics:

The version with, “Poor black people are fundamentally flawed,” was sent to every minority within the state of California.

“Poor men are inconsequential,” was sent to every man in the income brackets between $0-45,000 per year in California.

“We need to take away the civil liberties of all people,” was sent to every gun-owning man in California.

“You have no concept of what it means to be self-reliant, because you are a woman,” was sent to every woman in the state of California.

The exit polls showed those who watched the live debate thought Thomas Brown won, but judging by Carter’s estimation, over fifty times more people would see her fake ads than those who watched the debate.

About the Author

Hailing from the original birthplace of the atomic bomb,  Los Alamos, NM,  K.M. Ecke is an organic, free-range, preservative-free, philosopher-poet using universal truth to battle cultural insanity. Ecke, which is German for ‘corner’, is the child of a physicist and musician and grew up at the corner of creativity and logic. After ten years of existential exploration and creative experimentation, he releases his debut novel Moral Panic, along with an album of lyrically-focused songs, Change of Mind via his independent creative collective The Dream Flow.

Ecke strives to deliver a strong story with inherent value to his readers. The author is well-versed in writing, including essays, songs, and poetry, the last of which the author finds the most efficient form of expression, and thus, the best way to improve his writing practice.

Initially intending for law school,  a business law class changed his direction, and Ecke chose to pursue writing, soul-searching, and creative projects. After several years of odd jobs learning about different pieces of the world, he began his own private music teaching business and attended Colorado Film School for a year and a half to study filmmaking. After 18-months in his program, he veered to his own path and established Dream Flow Media, the home to all of his creative endeavors; publishing, music and all additional branches of the many-faceted visionary. Along with his own creations, he strives to bring other artists into the fold to develop a creative collective for a variety of multimedia projects.

Ecke also works as a filmmaker for local non-profits and bands and hopes one day to see Moral Panic on the big screen. The author lives in Denver, Colorado and hosts a storytelling micro-podcast Myths, Metaphors, and Morality. For more info, visit the author online at TheDreamFlow.com.

Synopsis

An ensemble sets off on a dark comedy of errors and uncertain conclusions, featuring original music throughout the story.

Theo and Judah, two childhood friends, are trying desperately to find an audience for their hard-edged, “grunge” music as they move past their twenties and feel the need to establish careers. Together, they enroll in an unusual college, called The University of Jazz and Music Technology.

Attracted at first by the means within the school to professionally record their own original music, the two friends embark on what could be a lifelong journey.  But the endeavor has an alternate effect, as Theo begins to question his musical efforts with Judah.

Entanglements with co-eds quickly complicate matters. Theo and Judah hit as many rough spots as any amateur band may find along the way, including a disastrous mini-tour of the northwest during spring break. Little do they know, the misfortunes have just begun…

The book will be free on Amazon April 1st – 4th – so snag your free copy in a few days!

Q & A with Barnaby

Misfortunes of T-Funk really is all about the music. What inspired the story?

My past, really. I knew this story was brewing in me for years now. The different jobs I’ve worked and stories I’ve lived through in the name of keeping music my priority has been just outrageous, so it seemed natural to craft these stories about fictional characters informed by my own “misfortunes” and frustrations in what almost seems like a former life to me now.

There has to be a little of your own real life peppered in, right?

Yes. I made up these characters and put them through some stories that are made up, and

some that I have actually experienced, though I will keep those details close to my chest. My favorite part of having a ‘work of fiction’ disclaimer is that I can borrow them from my own life with no intention of ever returning to them. I like to say that maybe I’ll even forget those parts of the stories really happened. I’m getting older… it could happen.

I love the idea of incorporating music directly into your story, especially with your background. It’s such a unique idea! How did you come up with it?

I started thinking about where Theo, my main character, was headed musically right away –

meaning back around the year 2000, though I didn’t have a name for him then – but, I didn’t have much in mind for the vehicle to get him there.

I felt like I needed a different plan of some sort.  I don’t really remember the moment I thought to use recordings, but it seemed an unnecessarily difficult task to describe Theo’s experience with nothing but words.  It was when I decided to use these recordings that my second character, Judah, materialized. He sings each track from my own songwriting past throughout the book.

Which genres and artists from your own life influence the music in Misfortunes of T-Funk?

I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and other classic rock. I also went through a punk phase, along with another stretch where I was listening to rap and writing hooks for some of those rappers in a studio in Northern California.  Jazz was a favorite later on in life, which explains why I eventually obtained an MA in Jazz Composition. I think all of these various influences will be pretty apparent to readers/listeners of the book, though I’m sure some are more obvious than others.

And what can readers/listeners expect of the embedded music in each of the Misfortune books?

I’m hoping for 12-15 tracks incorporated across the entire series – which is suspiciously the length of a CD or full-length playlist. It’s something that’s ever-developing with the story itself, so I’m looking forward to seeing just how the entire thing plays out.

About the Author

Barnaby Hazen is an author, editor and musician. Driven strongly by collaboration, it seems natural his first venture into writing began with a friend. Seven Eleven Stories periodical took shape in 2014 and just one year later, Seven Eleven Forgotten and Other Stories  debuted with a full-length collection featuring nine strange tales on convenience store fiction.

In 2017, Misfortunes of T-Funk, the first in a series, pulls directly from Hazen’s own life in music. Having been a lifelong, dedicated listener, teacher and performer, his latest novel incorporates his self-recorded and produced musical tracks directly into the chapters of his new novel. Hazen’s music illuminates his main characters and further elaborates on the story, creating a unique and personal soundtrack for readers of the book.

Having spent years as an educator, Barnaby’s time as an elementary school music teacher particularly inspired him to become involved with The Bud Hawthorne Revue.  He writes and edits the publication, along with Mr. Hawthorne himself, and is eager to continue offering contributions to literary culture given his unique perspective on writing.

Hazen lives in Taos, New Mexico with his wife Sarah and their adorably troublesome pets.

Rubber Soul by Greg Kihn

Greg Kihn is a rock star, seasoned radio host and author. Rubber Soul is a an innovation in the Rock Thriller genre, taking readers on a rollicking ride through The Beatles legacy from the early days in Liverpool to six sold out shows per night in Hamburg and full-fledged Beatlemania.

Dust Bin Bob runs into some lads from Liverpool at his second hand shop on Penny Lane. Praise

“There’s no one more qualified to write a rock-and-roll novel than Greg Kihn. He’s the real deal and at his Kihntillating best in this book.” – Guy Kawasaki, former chief evangelist of Apple

“Rubber Soul is a magical mystery tour de force by Greg Kihn, a rocker who obviously has a way with words as well as music. His imagined story about the Beatles is fast-moving, full of twists and tension, and musical nuggets and insights. Great story-telling set to a Fab-four beat.” – Ben Fong Torres

“Rubber Soul captures what Rock-n-Roll is all about – and Greg Kihn would certainly know! This nearly-true story of the Beatles is pure magic and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.” – Eddie Money

“Greg Kihn is the most compelling author who ever had a top five singing career. Rubber Soul is a fantastic story by Greg, with an historical back beat. I urge you not to miss this.” – Joan Jett

“I’m happy to report that Rubber Soul, the latest work by my pal Greg Kihn, has correct punctuation, complete sentences, even full paragraphs – some of the exact same literary devices that can be found in the greatest novels our culture has ever produced! It’s also written in English, which happens to be one of my very favorite languages.” – “Weird Al” Yankovic

“While the RIAA may not be able to certify Kihn’s work with a gold disc, fans of Kihn and The Beatles, as well as those who long for the simpler yet magical time of the 1960’s will thoroughly enjoy and fall in love with Rubber Soul. They certainly don’t write ‘em like this anymore.” – Chris Shapiro, RetroPulse

Rubber Soul Tour

Tour Schedule

gregAuthor Greg Kihn

NBC called Greg Kihn “Rock’s True Renaissance Man” and for good reason. As part of the eponymous band he has: toured the globe, had hit records, been inducted into the San Jose Rock Hall Of Fame, opened for the Rolling Stones and jammed with Bruce Springsteen. You may have heard of his smash worldwide #1 hit “Jeopardy” and “The Breakup Song”, not to mention the parody written by Weird Al Yankovic.

Being a famous and successful rock star is only one part of the mosaic that is Greg’s story. In the 90s Greg poured his passion for lyrics into writing fiction—publishing four novels, one of which “Horror Show” was nominated for the prestigious Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel.

In this vein, Greg merged his love of writing with Rock and Roll and wrote “Rubber Soul”—a unique rock murder mystery featuring The Beatles. The inspiration for this novel came from Greg’s interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Pete Best, Yoko Ono and Patti Harrison. In this way Greg gained exclusive access to the biggest band ever to exist. “Rubber Soul” is a work of fiction, but it is 100% historically accurate and a story that only rock veteran Greg Kihn could have written.
