Could anything be worse than your husband forgetting you?

Yes. Of course…

Review

I have enjoyed all of Hilary’s books; this one was no exception. In fact, I think it was outstanding and went deeper on the emotional level than some of her other books.

When you are in a wonderful relationship, it is hard when something happens to your partner, and you don’t know if they will return to you, and if they do, will they be 100%? This is what Waverly is experiencing when her husband has an accident at work which results in a brain injury. On top of worrying about Pete, she has to deal with his mother and the overprotectiveness of her favorite child. She can be rather irritating, but I think there is more to her story than we know. There is some resolution with her towards the end, which hopefully helps balance out the relationship.

This book is heavier than other books but rightfully so. I really felt the emotions of all the characters as they reacted to various situations. Since Waverly is pregnant, her feelings are all over the board, but thankfully she has a couple of friends that help ground her in reality. I hoped that all would work out for Pete and Waverly, and he would regain his memories of their time together.

If you decide to pick up this book, make sure to read Cop an Attitude first to get the backstory on Pete and Waverly’s relationship.

Another great book from this author, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next for this town and band of friends and frenemies!

We give this book 5 paws up.

Synopsis

Have you heard the one about the workaholic who decides she deserves a night of fun with a sexy stranger? It’s supposed to be a short story. Except one night of fun changes everything.

Owning and operating a bed and breakfast doesn’t leave me much time for men. Especially not men who aren’t from Winter Falls. Out-of-towners can’t be trusted. Trust me. I have the scars to prove it.

Then Cole Hawkins saunters into the Inn on Main. One look at him and I light my rulebook about men and out-of-towners on fire before hurling it out the window.

After Cole leaves town unexpectedly, I’m hell-bent on forgetting him and his adorable dimple until I discover our one night of passion has lasting consequences of the baby variety.

When Cole returns to Winter Falls and discovers I’m pregnant, he starts pushing for us to become a couple. Not so fast. Just because he’s the father of my baby doesn’t mean he’s suddenly trustworthy.

Can Cole convince me to give him a chance at forever or will our encounter always remain Just For Tonight?

This small-town romantic comedy features a woman who defines the word stubborn, a man who’s not giving up on her and their baby not matter how stubborn she is, a not planned but most welcome pregnancy, a gaggle of sisters who want to try their hands at matchmaking, and a whole town full of hippies who think being called a busybody is a compliment.

Just For Forever is a standalone novel in the Winter Falls series.

Review

It’s time for Ellery’s story! She got knocked up when a prophylactic failed during her one-night stand with Cole, a visiting architect. However, they are both bowled over with each other but it takes quite some time for them both to figure it out or at least admit it to themselves and one another.

The first seven chapters are a flashback to Aspen’s story (book one) and how Ellery met Cole and how she ended up pregnant which we discovered at the end of book two. I had to smile when Cole assumed that she was the maid for the inn and not the owner. He was a bit of a chauvinist but it came back to get him when he discovered the truth. I had to chuckle at Ellery’s naivety that she thought she could keep her pregnancy a secret from the town of Winter Falls. She should know better.

Ellery has some baggage from a college relationship gone south and that impacts how she looks at Cole. It takes a lot for him to work through her demons so that they can end up with a HEA.

The characters always make me laugh and this town is just nuts. But I love it all the same.

We give this book 5 paws up and look forward to Juniper and Maverick’s story and then we will get to see Lilac’s story which intrigues me the most because she is so different from her sisters.

Synopsis

Their reunion left a lot to be desired. Are they a disaster in the making or totally meant to be?

I kicked love to the curb for the greater good. After all, my soaring career would’ve made my family so proud, and men have a tendency to stop success cold. But I never expected a single and sexy police officer to pull me over, flirt with me, and then write me a ticket.

Now I see the infuriating cop everywhere I go. It doesn’t help that we have a past, and he’s an amazing dad to his daughter. And every time I want to get back to my small-town routine, I can only think about what my life would be like with the no-nonsense policeman…

I should really just forget the whole thing. But if I do, will I lose my last chance at love?

Cop An Attitude is the charming first book in the I Can’t Stop Loving You romantic comedy series. If you like engaging characters, enemies to lovers, and laughing out loud, then you’ll adore Hilary Grossman’s humorous walk on the wild side.

Review

Hilary has a way of making me laugh with the situations her characters find themselves in on a daily basis. Who would have thought that enemies could become lovers? Well, enemies might be too strong of a word, but sometimes high school drama doesn’t end at graduation.

This book is an expansion of her short story included in the Hate Me Like You Mean It anthology. I was confused at first when I started reading the book because I knew I had read it already but had forgotten about this anthology. However, this book has expanded and includes more of Pete’s story which helps round it out and adds more depth to his character. It gave us a better understanding of who he was and what he had endured prior to now.

Waverly and Pete seem to butt heads a lot. He resents the nickname she gave him when she was 6. They are nearly 40 and he still holds it against her, at least mildly. Waverly didn’t even recognize him when she was pulled over and it took some time before she discovered the truth and by that time it was almost too late to smooth the waters. They both go through a range of emotions before getting on the same page.

I had to chuckle when Pete puts Waverly’s neighbor in her place. She is your typical busybody and calls the police for everything…including leaves that apparently blew from Waverly’s yard to hers. I’m sure we all know someone like this.

The book has a HEA and I look forward to the next book in this series. We give it 4 paws up.

Synopsis

I am NOT Rowan’s little sister. And I will do everything in my power to prove otherwise. But I swear breaking my ankle, so I could live with him while I recover was not part of the plan. Honestly.

I have loved Rowan since I was sixteen and he rushed in like my knight in shining football pads to save me from a bully. Now that I’m back in Winter Falls after graduating college, it’s time for me to make him mine.

There’s only one problem. Rowan sees me as his little sister who needs protecting and not as a woman. There’s no problem too big I can’t overcome it, though. Even if it comes in the form of a stubborn six-foot-five former NFL quarterback.

When I break my ankle and Rowan insists I live with him while I recover, I decide our forced proximity is just the chance I need. Soon enough, the former football player isn’t acting as if he thinks I’m his little sister.

But Rowan still refuses to entertain the idea of us being in a relationship. Am I doomed to wait forever for him or can I prove to him he’s my forever?

This forced proximity small town romantic comedy features a feisty woman who’s not afraid to go after what she wants, a former NFL quarterback who’s determined to do ‘the right thing’ even if what he thinks is ‘the right thing’ is NOT in fact ‘the right thing’, a super convenient broken ankle, a gaggle of sisters who want to try their hands at matchmaking, and a whole town full of hippies who think being called a busybody is a compliment.

Review

There is one thing I know that I can count on from this author, a book that will make me laugh out loud and is filled with sexy characters in interesting locations.

This is the second book in the series and focuses on Ashlyn, Aspen’s sister, and Rowan, a friend of Lyric’s in a way (they played football together). Ashlyn has had a major crush on Rowan since she was about 15. I don’t know if I have ever had a crush on someone for that long, but there is something about these two that cause sparks to fly and ignite. Despite their attraction to each other, there is something holding Rowan back from pursuing a relationship. We don’t find out what that something is until about 2/3 of the way through the book, but the anticipation kept me guessing why he thought he couldn’t have a relationship with her or anyone else.

There are so many fun things about this book from Rowan’s new profession as a baker to Ashlyn’s secret career…which isn’t so much of a secret but then what is in the town of Winter Falls? The citizens of this town all care about each other but are way too much into each other’s business, especially their sex lives. They are always betting on when someone will do the deed, get together, or some other craziness. Maybe it is something in the water that makes them act this crazy, and while it is over the top you can see how much they care about everyone in town.

Ashlyn and Rowan both have issues to deal with and accept before they can move forward with each other. However, the time that Ashlyn spends at Rowan’s house recovering helps move them along in the right direction…with the help of Ashlyn’s sisters and the rest of the town. There are times when Ashlyn doesn’t act like an adult but more like a child, but sometimes that happens when you grow up as the youngest and everyone else telling you what to do or taking care of you. Rowan fights his feelings for too long and this combined with Ashlyn’s actions delays their happily ever after storyline.

I think a surprise character is Bryan. He is Rowan’s friend from college turned personal assistant while in the NFL turned bakery assistant in Winter Falls. Perhaps he should have his own story?!

The end of this book leaves us with a lead-in to Ellery’s story. While I guessed what her secret was pretty quickly, I am intrigued to learn more about her story with Cole.

This is a fun read and we give it 5 paws up.

Review

Welcome to Winter Falls where there aren’t many rules to follow other than keeping things green and immersing yourself in everyone else’s business.

Aspen ends up back in town thanks to a fire that destroyed her business and apartment. While she waits for the insurance company, she returns back to Winter Falls and the first person she runs into is her former flame, Lyric. The sparks fly between these two and it doesn’t take long for them to fall back in with each other despite Aspen’s ruminations that once the insurance company pays she will head back to Dallas. She doesn’t expect the whole town to conspire against her and coerce her to stay in town. They even come up with a name for it, Project Weston (a combination of their last names).

This book is full of sassy characters that say what they want. I think I would love this town and want to know where it is so I can move there! Everyone is so open about life, love, sex, and everything in between. There are so many lines that made me laugh out loud but at the same time, so many lines that rang true and we could all take to heart.

Aspen’s sisters are a mixed bag of personalities but they all have each other’s backs when it comes to life and love. I can’t wait to see what is in store for each of them in future books.

I always enjoy books from this author and this one was no exception. We give it 5 paws up.

Excerpt

“Did someone report a disturbance?”

Feather, Petal, and Sage scream. “A stripper? Aspen, you’re our favorite bookstore owner ever.”

“Are you high?” Not a good question to ask in Winter Falls. “Never mind. He’s not a stripper. He’s the Chief of Police.”

“Why can’t he be both?” Feather winks at Lyric, and his face darkens to the color of a sun ripened tomato.

I shrug. “I guess he could. What do you say, Chief? You want to strip for us?”

He rallies. Of course, he rallies. So much for witnessing Lyric run away with his tail tucked between his legs. Too bad. The pictures would have been awesome.

“I’m sorry, ladies, but I’m afraid I’m a one woman man.”

“Oh, come on. We promise not to touch, boss,” Sage says.

“I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable at work.” He winks at her. “You know because you’d be harboring impure thoughts about the boss during working hours.”

She licks her lips and lets her eyes roam up and down his body. “Who says I don’t have impure thoughts about the boss now?”

Feather riffles through her purse and digs out a bunch of ones before waving them around. “And we’ll pay you.”

“I’m sorry to inform you the town ordinance forbids me from stripping for you lovely ladies.” Ladies? They’re practically eating him alive with their eyes. Aren’t ladies supposed to be demure?

Everyone looks to Lilac for confirmation. “It’s true. The Chief of Police is not allowed to earn any additional money other than his salary as police chief.”

“This is some bull cocky.” Feather throws her ones down on the floor.

Published: February 10, 2022

Synopsis

Friends. Just friends. It’s really not a difficult concept.

Milwaukee is merely a pitstop while I try to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. I’m not hiding from my family of moonshiners back in West Virginia. I’m just … figuring some things out before I confront them.

Lenny acts like he’s fine being friends, but I know he wants more. It’s not hard to figure out when his lips find mine every chance he gets.

He thinks he can charm his way into me taking down my walls. Ha! Good luck with that. My walls are steel reinforced.

But then the whole mess back home catches up with me, and Lenny’s done with gentle. His battering ram is at the ready, prepared to take my walls down no matter the consequences. Gulp.

He claims Love will OUT in the end.

Easy for him to say. He doesn’t know the disaster awaiting him.

This friends to lovers later in life romantic comedy features a woman doing her dang best to resist a silver fox’s charm, a silver fox that will do anything in his power to change her mind, a gang of friends who don’t know the definition of nosy, and a group of former military buddies who are looking for any excuse to get back in the game.

Review

What a great way to end the series with the last of the “brothers” finding a soulmate.

Lenny is all about loving the person and not the gender. That is until he meets Lexi and after that, it is game over. He knows she is the one he is meant to spend the rest of his life with.

Lexi is best friends with Chrissie and is running from something but we don’t know what until about halfway through the book. And when the secret is revealed, it is heartbreaking and will make anyone angry at the others involved. Of course, this brings out Lenny’s protective streak.

Lexi puts off Lenny as long as she can, but the chemistry between the two is off the charts and it takes great effort to hold him off until her secret is resolved. And when she finally lets him in? Fireworks!

I really enjoyed this series and that many of the characters are a little older (40’s and 50’s), but there are some that are younger. But the combination blends well with the women forming their own pack and there is no privacy or many secrets in this gang. The men band together as well and while most of them served in the military together, there are three others that manage to blend in with this group and they are all there to protect their women. I have to laugh because several of the women are more than capable of taking care of themselves, but it is heartwarming to see the men realize their worth and protect them at all costs.

There are many laugh-out-loud moments and I found myself chuckling throughout the entire book. It was the perfect book to end the day.

I loved that the last chapter is ten years in the future and gives us a recap of what has happened with all of the couples, children that were born, and other situations that arise. It was the perfect way to end the book and not leave us hanging wondering what the characters have gotten up to over time.

While you can read any of these books on their own, it is best to read in order so you can follow the progression of time and the characters.

We give this book 5 paws up.

Synopsis

Friends becoming something much more in this hilarious romantic comedy from author Ann Marie Walker. A whirlwind trip to Ireland is supposed to end with a suitcase full of wool sweaters and souvenir pint glasses—not a husband you only just met!

After one-too-many whiskeys, fledgling screenwriter Cara Kennedy takes a page out of someone else’s script when she gets caught up in the Irish tradition of women proposing on Leap Day. She thought she might have dreamt everything until she wakes the next morning with a hot guy in her bed and a tin foil ring on her finger. Her flight is in four hours, her clothes are all over the room, and she has the most important meeting of her career in exactly two days—and on top of everything else, her husband has a dog who thinks Cara is a perfect surrogate mother, despite the fact that she has never been much of an animal lover…

Deciding to work things out stateside, Finn and her new fur baby accompany her to LA, where Finn spends his days going on auditions and his nights charming his new bride, leaving Cara to wonder whether this is real love, or if Finn is another aspiring actor just after her Hollywood connections? With limited time on his tourist visa, will Finn be able to convince Cara that she’s the right girl for him, or will time run out on their Hollywood ending?

Review

Sometimes you just need a light fluffy romance to end your day…or your night as in my case. I started reading this book and was close to finishing it but decided I needed to go to sleep since it was about midnight. Well, I couldn’t fall asleep so thought it was best to just finish the book. And what do you know, I could go to sleep after that!

Cara ends up in Ireland despite a breakup with her boyfriend. She was supposed to go with him but decided that she had the ticket and why not go and get a stamp in her passport. Granted, there is always the chance that she will run into him since they are staying in the same hotel, but maybe not. Yeah, that is wishful thinking on Cara’s part. Things don’t go well on arrival as her luggage is still in London, but Cara is a trooper and makes the most of her moment including a hunky Uber driver, Finn, who kindly lends her his sweater since her previous ride splashed her. But this is a good thing because there is chemistry between the two and fate intervened to put them in the same car so they could meet. It doesn’t hurt that Finn has a dog, Oscar Wilde, that decides he really likes Cara. Just another sign that something should happen between the two…and boy do things happen between these two!

This was just a fun read! It is fast-paced and so much happens for Cara and Finn once they arrive in the states. Everything is going along smoothly until some information arises that has Cara questioning Finn’s motivation. I won’t spoil it but had I been in Cara’s shoes, I would have thought the same thing and wouldn’t have known any differently. However, Finn knew and he chose not to disclose this tidbit of information. I understand his motivation, he fell for Cara right off the bat and didn’t want to let her go.

I loved Cara’s friends, Julia and Jonathan, they are quite a hoot and help to round out the storyline in various places. Plus they are good sounding boards for various issues that arise.

While the book is mostly happiness, there are also some growing moments for Cara and Finn which help balance the romance in the story.

I think Oscar (the dog) steals the show and I really enjoyed the epilogue told from his perspective. Something happens that I suspected might have happened from earlier in the book but we don’t know until the epilogue.

This was one of my favorite lines from the book

“Besides, it’s not like I married you because of your career.” He winked, “I just needed a mother for Oscar.”

A fun book and we give it 5 paws up.

About the Author

Synopsis

An eternal bachelor convinced he’s finally found ‘the one’ vs. a woman scarred by her past. It’s gonna get messy…

I came back to Wisconsin seeking peace. The PI firm You Cheat, We Eat was not the place to find it. Not when the owner’s uncle takes one look at me and knows I’m hiding a big, fat secret.

Wally can keep looking. I’m not divulging my past to anyone. But when it turns out I have a stalker, Wally will do everything in his power to help me and keep me safe, but first he needs me to reveal my entire ugly past.

It’s not so simple. I can’t divulge my secrets. Seriously. I will be in big trouble – the kind where you end up in jail – if I open my mouth. But it turns out Wally has a surprise of his own. A surprise that can help him learn all about my past.

Wally claims he’ll take care of my stalker and then I’ll see how Love will OUT. Oh boy.

This seasoned romantic comedy features a woman who’s been burned by her past – literally – there were flames and everything, an eternal bachelor ready to give up his bachelor ways who will pull out all the stops to make sure his Angel stays safe, a group of friends who will do just about anything to find out what in the world is going on since someone’s not telling, and a makeshift family of former Army buddies who can not only tell dirty jokes but still have skills.

A Christmas for Chrissie is a standalone book in the Love will OUT romantic comedy series.

Review

If you need a book that will make you chuckle yet keep you on the edge of your seat with adventure, then this is the book to check out. This series is fantastic because it features a group of “older” men (50’s) that served in the military together and have the skills to keep their women safe, perhaps to their detriment as well since women aren’t fragile creatures, but what woman doesn’t like having a man look out for her? I know I don’t mind my spouse taking care of me even though I am perfectly capable.

Chrissie has a background that would rival any of the men, but when a piece of her past rears its ugly head it brings Wally even closer to protect her from those issues. I love how Wally falls for her right away and Chrissie puts up a fight to keep him at arm’s length. Granted, she hasn’t had the best past, but at some point, you have to move forward and leave the past in the past. I love that she doesn’t let him leave her out of the plans and while it might have gone against his desires to keep her safe, she can definitely keep up with the best of them.

This story is sweet, steamy, and amusing. The pranks, the jokes, the interactions between the characters, all of these make for a fantastic read. There is even a sweet ending.

We give this book 5 paws up.

Synopsis

A Love for Lexi is a standalone book in the Love will OUT romantic comedy series.

Excerpt

“I’m sorry. You shocked me. I misspoke.”

Lexi crosses her arms over her chest and leans back as far as possible while remaining perched on my lap.

“Apology not accepted.”

I sigh. “I’m an ass. Are those the words you want to hear?”

“What I want is for you to not be an ass!”

I shrug. “I’m a man. I will be an ass on more occasions. And I trust you to point each and every occasion out to me.”

“I will. You can bet on it.”
