Synopsis

In this delectable new cozy mystery series, social media maven Maddy Montgomery’s perfectly ’grammable life has come undone, and she’s #StartingOver in a tiny town with one giant problem—a killer on the loose...

When Maddy Montgomery’s groom is a no-show to their livestream wedding, it’s a disaster that no amount of filtering can fix. But a surprise inheritance offers a chance to regroup and rebrand—as long as Maddy is willing to live in her late, great-aunt Octavia’s house in New Bison, Michigan, for a year, running her bakery and caring for a 250-pound English mastiff named Baby.

Maddy doesn’t bake, and her Louboutins aren’t made for walking giant dogs around Lake Michigan, but the locals are friendly and the scenery is beautiful. With help from her aunt’s loyal friends, aka the Baker Street Irregulars, Maddy feels ready to tackle any challenge, including Octavia’s award-winning cake recipes. That is, until New Bison’s mayor is fatally stabbed, and Maddy’s fingerprints are found on the knife . . .

Something strange is going on in New Bison. It seems Aunt Octavia had her suspicions, too. But Maddy’s going to need a whole lot more than a trending hashtag to save her reputation—and her life.

Meet Maddy Montgomery

Hi, my name is Madison Montgomery, but everyone calls me Maddy. You may have heard of me. I’ve been sharing my views on fashion online, and I’ve made quite the name for myself as a social media influencer. Things were going well, that is until my fiancé decided to dump me on our wedding day. Getting dumped wouldn’t have been so bad if the wedding hadn’t been livestreamed. That was #humiliating. I just wanted to find a rock to hide under until the social media attention died down. That’s when I got a call that my great aunt Octavia died and left me an inheritance. I’d never met Aunt Octavia and I’d certainly never been to New Bison, Michigan, but it sounded like the perfect place to hide. So, I backed up my Louboutins and headed for Southwestern Michigan.

New Bison, Michigan is a quiet, sleepy resort town on the shores of Lake Michigan, but it’s only a quick drive to downtown Chicago, which has some #amazing #MagnificantMileShops. A quick meeting with Aunt Octavia’s lawyer is where I learned my inheritance consisted of a house on the shores of Lake Michigan, a bakery, and a 250 lb English Mastiff named Baby. My dreams of selling the house, the bakery, and the dog that’s the size of a small pony were dashed when I learned that Aunt Octavia had other plans. According to the terms of her will, in order to inherit, I have to run the bakery, stay in the house, and keep the dog for one year. Otherwise, I get nothing. So, even though I can’t bake, have never owned a home, and haven’t been able to keep a goldfish alive, I accept the challenge. How hard could it be?

I’m barely in town for one day when the offers start pouring in to buy the house, the bakery, and even Baby. Everyone seems intent on convincing me to sell. Fed up with the offers I can’t accept, I lost my temper and got into an argument with a man who wants to expand his business into the bakery. That was definitely #BadManners. But, before I could apologize, he was murdered. The police found his body inside the bakery and my fingerprints were all over the murder weapon. It’s up to me and my new friends to figure out #whodunit. Read all about my adventure in, Two Parts Sugar, One Part Murder.
