Synopsis

Kelly Quinn, owner of a high-end consignment shop, is a booster for her Long Island town’s small businesses—but now a store owner’s murder has brought big trouble . . .

Locals in Lucky Cove seem to harbor hostility toward Miranda Farrell, proprietor of a new shoe store. Nevertheless, Kelly invites her along to a Chamber of Commerce meeting. But soon afterward, Miranda’s body is found in her shop, with Kelly’s uncle—who’s had multiple public arguments with her—standing nearby. Could her uncle really have committed murder over a business dispute? Or is Miranda’s death related to her late husband’s long-ago embezzlement case?

Kelly feels compelled to investigate, despite her detective boyfriend’s objections—not to mention her commitment to promoting Small Business Saturday. But her effort to pump up sales may fall flat. After her presentation to the committee is sabotaged, the Chamber gives her the boot—and tongues start wagging. Now she has to do some fancy footwork to find the killer . . .

Day In the Life by Debra Sennefelder

Every day is different for the life of an author. Some days we’re knee deep in edits. Other days we’re writing all the words. And there are some days when we’re bouncing from one task to another while doing countless loads of laundry. Today I thought I’d take you along on my day. Ready?

6:00: Wake up and put on my workout clothes. I’ve been working at getting back into my morning routine and that includes exercising.

6:30: I’m downstairs with Connie (our three-year old Shih Tzu). After she’s settled on the sofa (she’s not an early morning riser), I fill my water bottle and then open up my fitness membership app and select a workout. Today it’s total body strength.

7:15: The workout is over and I’m dropping a K-cup into my Keurig. Time for some coffee and unloading the dishwasher. There’s also a quick tidy up of the kitchen.

8:00: It’s time to make breakfast (for me and Connie) and check in on Clubhouse for the daily chat. Once I finish breakfast, I take my second cup of coffee into my office, and I check emails and review my to-do list for the day. I have three guest posts to write for SLEUTHING IN STILETTOS book release and I have a partial to get together and send to my agent.

9:00: With my plan for the day finalized, I head upstairs for a shower and dress. Then I tidy the bedroom, making the bed. I really dislike an unmade bed.

9:45: I refill my water bottle and head into my office. It’s time to do some work. I begin with the guest posts. I have two that need to be polished, and I need to finish this one. Then I can send all three plus two interviews back to the blog tour operator (Lori is the best!).

11:00: I finish my water and stretch. I’ve worked in Pomodoro sprints, and I’ve gotten a lot accomplished so far. So, I think it’s time to throw a load of laundry into the washing machine. Plus, it’ll give me some extra steps.

11:20: I’m back at my desk. I check my emails again and then social media. I reply to a few comments and then I log into the Sisters-In-Crime forum and check out what’s going on.

11:30: I decide to finish polishing my guest posts before lunch. Woo-hoo. I get both done just a little after noon. UPS just showed up with my 2023 Erin Condren planner!

12:00: It’s time to break for lunch and I whip up a protein smoothie. I engage in a little play time with Connie and then I make another cup of coffee. Back in my office, settle at my computer to watch a few of my favorite YouTube channels. Today I’m watching A Little Box of Happy and BC Sells (two fashion channels).

1:00: I close out of YouTube and open my Word document. There are some final touches I want to make on my partial and then I can send it to my agent.

2:00: My partial is all set to be emailed to my agent. After another check of emails, I send a text message to my mom’s occupational therapist, and I leave my office. I have two errands to run. I need to stop at the grocery story, TJ Maxx and the bank.

3:30: I’m back home and putting away the groceries. Now I have to start prepping dinner but first, I have my 8Greens drink. It’s been a ritual for me for about two years. It’s like my late-afternoon cocktail but only healthier. I drink it as I check my emails for the last time today and I review my plan for tomorrow.

4:00: I’m tying on my apron and starting to prepare dinner. It’s been a productive day. I was able to cross off all my tasks that were due today. Tomorrow will be split between writing and promo work.

There you have it, a day in my life. It’s far from glamourous but I love what I do. And I hope you’ll love SLEUTHING IN STILETTOS.

Before you leave, I’d like to know if you have any daily rituals? If so, share it with us in the comments section below.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me on social media or through my website.
