Review
This young author has written a fun story that younger readers (and older ones) will enjoy. It is based on a community of underground creatures —moles, meerkats, armadillos, and more. They live in harmony until humans start excavating where they live, and they have to scramble to find a new place to live without being caught by humans.
The story is told through two main characters, Benjamin and Mr. Hare. Benjamin is a mole who hasn’t risen up the ranks and is still a junior digger. Mr. Hare is the leader of the colony. I enjoyed watching them become stronger characters through their experiences. Sometimes, the status quo isn’t always good. I felt like the characters might represent what we experience in our own world. And there is also humor disbursed throughout the story. I had to chuckle at the different circumstances that the creatures found themselves in and how they handled it all.
I thought that this was a very creative book with unique references for time and distance. The character names were also unique to what you might find in other books, but that is what makes this fantasy.
I am impressed that this was written by a young man still in high school. I can only imagine what he will accomplish in the coming years.
I think this is a book that my great-niece might enjoy. We give it 4 paws up.
