Synopsis

Summer of 1963 in Bavaria: Thoughtful and literary mobbing drama about an attractive stranger with a secret past. Translated Version from the popular German book series of Movie-Length-Stories:

A young, attractive single mother moves into a small Lower Bavarian village in the Summer of 1963. She is not looking for a job, nor is she looking to make friends. When the villagers discover that several men are visiting her regularly, they are horrified. They assume that this stranger is a prostitute and look for ways to chase her away. The only one to take her side and stand by her is a young journalist living in the village. He suspects she is hiding here. But from whom or what? And is his support genuine, or was he sent to discover her secret?

Review

This novella shows us that prejudice knows no boundaries.

This is the second book I have read by this author—or maybe I should say the fourth since the first book was three stories. This author has a way with words to bring human emotion to the page and perhaps challenge a reader’s perception.

I enjoyed getting to the root of the mystery surrounding this woman who has moved to town with no job but plenty of money. The truth is not what you might expect, but makes sense. However, one rumor from someone who doesn’t know the full story causes her heartache. But luckily, a kind soul, a journalist, comes to her aide in this tumultuous time. The truth about her past would make anyone understand her situation. However, not getting to know someone and what they have endured can cause false information and gossip to spread.

The story is well written, and I wanted it to continue. However, there is more that could have been told about these characters. But there is enough to satisfy the reader.

We give this book 4 paws up.
