Review – Imprinted on the Heart by Terry Newman
Synopsis
JJ Spritely, history professor and romance author, writes love stories, but her own happily ever after seems out of reach. She’s frustrated her most recent book is sitting in a warehouse instead of in the hands of her readers. And her relationship with her boyfriend has stalled. What else could possibly go wrong?
How about a return visit from Alex and Blake, the fictional characters from her yet-to-be-released book? They’ve jumped out of the pages of their book into JJ’s world before. They mean well, but they cause chaos wherever they go.
Kennedy King Cooper wants to propose to JJ, but his track record with this sort of thing isn’t good – and to further complicate matters, the new professor, Robert J. MacWhouton, is monopolizing JJ’s time. If he doesn’t ask her soon, he may lose her forever.
Alex and Blake are determined to give destiny a helping hand. They stand ready to do whatever it takes to help Kenn propose before a kilt-wearing romance hero wannabe sweeps her off her feet. If only they had a plan.
This time, it seems, no one is guaranteed a happily ever after.

Review
This is the third book in the series, and its whimsical approach to the storyline elevates it to the next level.
As in previous books, two fictional characters come to life. However, we never really know how this happens. In this book, the author delves into another size, which includes Merlin (yes, that Merlin) and adds whimsy to the story. While I have always enjoyed this series, something about this book lifted it up a notch. Not only was it some backstory on how Alex and Blake show up in our world, but we also have the parents of Ted (one of the cafe owners), who are professional clowns and speak in a language that is derived from horns. There is more to their story that I won’t share because it is too fun to read and I don’t want to spoil it for you.
There is some competition for Kenn’s love and relationship with JJ. I never thought it was a real competition, but this new professor made up any excuse to get alone with JJ. This causes issues for Kenn because he wants to propose, but is scared to do it. In true Alex and Blake fashion, they jump in to help. However, sometimes they make things a little stickier than if they had stayed out of it, but considering their experience is limited to what JJ has written for them, they are bound to create problems. Luckily, they have several friends who help them out so they don’t totally blow things out of proportion.
I suggest that if you pick up this book, start with the first one to follow the characters’ personal storylines. It could be read on its own, but it will be more enjoyable if you read the whole series.
We give this book 5 paws up.
About the Author
Two things you should know about me: I have an offbeat sense of humor, and characters constantly talk to me, trying to get me to tell their stories. Other than that, I’m a normal person.
I’ve spent most of my adult life writing in some fashion, from small-town reporter to editor-in-chief and ghostwriter for a national natural health publishing firm. For the last decade and a half, I’ve worked as a freelance writer, penning ebooks on topics ranging from starting a doula services business to Native American herbs.
I’ve finally taken the plunge into fiction after pushing so many doubts aside. My first novel with The Wild Rose Press, Heartquake, won a 4.5 crowned heart review with Ind’tale Magazine.
All my books are set in fictional towns in northeast Ohio, where I grew up. I write about things I love, like coffee.
I have a daughter, a son-in-law, and a grandpuppy, and live in North Lima, a real town in northeast Ohio with all my characters. Yes, it does get crowded.
