Synopsis

Misplaced kindness was his downfall. But this time, he’ll save the woman he loves. Let evil burn.

Alejandro’s life may seem charmed. A self-made Hispanic billionaire and philanthropist, a man who rebuilt himself after loss. But beneath the façade is a man haunted by the past. A man who failed to protect his wife from ruthless criminals. Now, he devotes his life to justice, pouring his resources into helping victims.

But fighting evil comes at a cost. A shocking betrayal from within his own team. An obsessive stalker watching his every move. And a vengeful kingpin—Mr. X—who wants to destroy everything Alejandro loves.

When his path collides with Sophia St. Michaels, a fearless media executive chasing the same dangerous enemy, their fates become entangled. They are each other’s only chance at survival. Each attack draws them closer. Every threat strengthens their bond.

As the final battle begins and Sophia’s life hangs in the balance, Alejandro must let go of the past, his guilt, and the rules he once followed. With his unconventional family at his side, he must embrace the Dragon within to protect her.

Evil doesn’t play by the rules. Why should he?

A high-stakes, emotionally charged romantic suspense with twists that will stay with you long after the final page.

Review

Romance, suspense, and two people who find each other are out to save the world.

Alejandro and Sophia are two sides of the same coin. They have similar goals, but each wants to do it on their own terms. Sophia was hard to like at first because she did not want to give up any control to anyone else, especially not Alejandro. Alejandro was a bit controlling, but as I got to know him, I understood it came from a place of love. He can’t help those Latin roots!

This story involves taking down Mr. X, a sex trafficker who has stayed hidden in the shadows until now. Alejandro and Sophia have different reasons for wanting him out of the picture, and this sordid business. Will they eventually work together to achieve this goal?

While this is a stand-alone novel, I felt I needed to read the first book to better understand the players. I did eventually figure it out, but going into the book with that information would have been helpful to me. But I’m also one of those who prefer to read books in order, even if they don’t require it.

This novel has action to keep you on your toes. I liked that the intimacy was behind closed doors, and there were no f* bombs. Alejandro and Sophia do work well together when the heat is turned up. Three potential suspects have their sights on Alejandro. He helped rescue them from bad situations, and they put more into his support than what was really there. One of these three is in cahoots with Mr. X. I had my suspicions, but they weren’t confirmed until near the end.

I liked the teaser at the end for book three. You get a little taste in the Epilogue, but even more insight in the sneak peek. So don’t skip that part.

We give this book 4 paws up.
