Review – One Killer Night by Trilina Pucci

Synopsis
USA Today bestselling author Trilina Pucci cranks up the heat in this sexy slasher filled with dark family secrets, classic horror tropes, and banter as sharp as a deranged killer’s knife.
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love will stab you from behind.
It’s Halloween night, and out-of-work writer Goldie Monroe’s trip to the drugstore scares up more than the fake blood she’s looking for. It leads to the man of her naughtiest dreams. And in spite of her costume, sparks fly from the moment they meet.
Noah Adler, aspiring sneaker designer, is impossibly gorgeous—like a tatted-up version of Goldie’s favorite blue-eyed vampire. He’s there for candy, but it’s Goldie he can’t resist. When she invites him to her sister’s F/X company bash, he’s all in without a second thought.
The pair’s flirty connection heats up fast, carrying them to electrifying new heights. But after Goldie discovers Noah is hiding a dark secret, it all starts to crumble. Looking for answers about her own past awakens new dangers, and when Goldie and Noah land at a slasher camp for adults, a deadly tragedy threatens to repeat itself. If they can survive this one killer night, they can definitely slay a happily ever after.

Review
This is quite an interesting mash-up of romance and horror genres. There is a fun meet-cute at the beginning, with plenty of humor sprinkled throughout, but a dark force is also shadowing Noah and Goldie.
I loved how Goldie and Noah met… in aisle 7 of Walgreens, as she was looking for blood while dressed as a T. rex. He isn’t dressed in costume, but she immediately calls him Damon. A relationship builds from there, but secrets must be revealed if the relationship is to continue.
There is witty banter between Goldie, Noah, Chase, and Evie. Chase is Noah’s best friend, and Evie is Goldie’s sister. The book is not lacking in humor or interesting conversations.
Now for the horror side… I wasn’t sure what to expect. I am not a horror fan, but this was more campy than true horror. There is a quintessential camp where people have died, but we don’t fully understand its significance until closer to the end. There are some intriguing twists near the end as everything comes to a head. Things I was not expecting.
While I enjoyed the book, I can only give it 3 1/2 paws because of the steamy bedroom scenes. I felt like they were over the top and actually detracted from the storyline. This is my personal opinion, and I know many others probably love the steaminess, so I did a lot of skimming in those areas.
However, it was a fun read and unique, and I might check out the next book in the series, as it will be Evie & Chase’s story.
