Review

This book was the perfect read for the moment. It is a lighter romance, but it still addresses issues such as infidelity, single parents, grief, and more.

Leighton is a character who won’t let life bring her down. She finds out her boyfriend is married, she is pregnant, and her parents have disowned her. But she is strong and lands at the right place at the right time to find a roommate and a job. It doesn’t hurt that it is the granddaughter of one of the Fairy Godmothers. What follows is a blossoming friendship, a chance encounter with a doctor grappling with his own issues, and the birth of her child.

Xander is another character to love. The loss of his wife and unborn child weighs heavily on him. I appreciated that he finally realized that he needed someone professional to talk to about his grief and feelings.

I enjoyed watching Xander and Leighton’s story unfold. They didn’t rush anything and learned more about each other over time. There are some moments with the biological father that angered me. He writes off Leighton, yet comes back later and wants custody? The reason was mind-boggling. There are a few other details that blew my mind, including who was involved in the situation.

There are also flashbacks to Rainy’s youth that add dimension to her character. I do think that might have been better at the beginning versus interspersed between the chapters. I felt like it stopped the flow of Leighton and Xander’s story.

This is a book that I stayed up way too late to finish. I couldn’t help it; I was invested in the story.

We give it 5 paws up.
