Review
The action never stops! I think I was worn out by the end of the book. But that isn’t a bad thing!
Jennifer Nash is the scapegoat for an op gone wrong. It was supposed to be a simple surveillance, but that night, things did not go according to plan. This is not an easy pill for her swallow, and to improve her standing with the DEA, she takes on what is supposed to be an easy job. Jennifer and some local police are supposed to observe and possibly collect evidence of a potential meth lab deep in Cajun country. But nothing goes right from the start. Who can she trust, and who is in the pockets of the cartel?
Jennifer isn’t taken seriously by the local police, but she soon proves to them that she is more than capable of holding her own. Especially, once things turn upside down, and they are fighting for their lives.
I admired Jennifer and what she did to save herself and the other men, even though not many of them are worth saving. In some fields, men are dismissive of women, and don’t treat them as equals. This is one of those fields. Despite their treatment of her, she doesn’t leave them behind and does her best to save them and their op.
The bulk of this book takes place over a couple of days, but considering the pace, the time flies by. This is not a book to read late at night, unless you want to stay up thinking about the book. I had questions at the end because it is not tied up with a bow. But I feel like that will leave the book open for a sequel featuring Jennifer Nash. I don’t know if the author has that planned, but if not, maybe he should.
The book does not lack for descriptions, and because I have family in that part of Louisiana, I felt right at home. The bayous are not for the faint of heart.
We give book 5 paws up.
