Review
Were they co-dreaming or was this something else?
Zadie and Jason seem to have it all, but just when Zadie believes their relationship is moving forward, Jason breaks up with her. But before they get to far, they are in an accident. This throws everything into a tailspin as Zadie tries to hide the breakup from everyone. Only Marcus knows the truth, which is where things go a bit crazy. Zadie and Marcus go back in time and are observers to certain incidents that give clues about Zadie and Jason’s relationship. Sometimes we overlook clues that are right in our face.
Zadie is a strong young woman, but she is still a teenager and maybe doesn’t have everything in place quite yet. No one would expect her to have her whole life planned out. She might think that she has it together, but that is the biggest tipoff that something may not be right. Her life at home isn’t great either, since her mom is a workaholic and doesn’t have much time for Zadie. I can only imagine that impacts some of Zadie’s choices.
I didn’t like Jason’s character. There are more details that come out near the end that cemented my dislike. Marcus was a bit better, and his awkwardness can be chalked up to having a crush on Zadie. But I could see that he did care about her, even if he didn’t know how to show it.
The story itself was good, until we got close to the end and the story flipped. While I was intrigued by the twist, a few things didn’t make sense to me. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I won’t share those thoughts. Some pieces didn’t seem to fit quite right or didn’t offer an explanation.
This YA romance is filled with teen angst, and if you enjoy those storylines, you might enjoy this book.
We give it 3 1/2 paws up.
