Review – The Reimagined Life of Jade Morrow by Vannetta Chapman

StoreyBook Reviews

Synopsis

She’s spent her career rewriting the lives of famous women. Now she must find the courage to rewrite her own.

Bestselling author Jade Morrow has built a career reimagining history’s most iconic women and the single choices that changed their lives. But at forty-six, Jade’s own carefully constructed world is unraveling.

Crippling panic attacks force her to leave New York City behind and start over in Shelby, Texas, the small town her parents once called home. Determined to rebuild her life in solitude, Jade keeps everyone at a distance—until a devastating accident leaves her stranded and utterly alone.

As the people of Shelby slowly break through the walls she’s built around herself, Jade discovers that healing may require more courage than reinvention. And for the first time, she wonders if the life she truly wants is still waiting for her.

The Reimagined Life of Jade Morrow is an emotional and uplifting novel about grief, friendship, second chances, and learning that it’s never too late to choose a different future.

Review

What if you chose a different path for a certain situation, what might your life look like instead of the one you know?

This new novel explores that concept, and includes side stories of famous people should have chosen a different path. Would history be the same? I liked these little snippets changing a minute decision into something else and how their lives and history might be changed. For example, if Amelia Earhart had turned around instead of becoming lost in that famous flight. Or if Rosa Parks had decided that day wasn’t the one to fight back on the bus. How would our history change?

Jade is an author who moves to Shelby, Texas, from New York City. Many would question that move, but she has some ties to the small town since her parents lived there. That doesn’t mean that she knows anyone, but it feels familiar in a way. I imagine Jade thought she could disappear in this small town, but if you have ever lived in a small town, that is not what happens. You get pulled into the fabric of the town whether you want to or not! Plus, it is in Texas. That is just how we operate here.

This book is more than a woman finding her way in a small town. It is also about friendships, accepting help, and reconciling the past. I loved the small town vibe, how they came together to help each other in times of crisis, and supported each other’s hopes and dreams. I appreciated Jade’s journey, because it wasn’t an easy one, especially once the truth was revealed about her panic attacks. No spoilers here!

I liked how there are three main characters that the story focuses on, or at least their points of view. While there are some interesting minor characters, the friendship that develops between Jade, Virginia, and Daniel, was apropos. I kept wondering if a personal relationship might develop between Daniel and Jade, but it does not. I loved the ending, and while I wanted to know a little more, I think it was the perfect ending to this story.

This author writes many wonderful tales, and this is no exception. We give this book 5 paws up.
