Praise for the Book

Alisa says: Good read! I enjoyed the story and the characters. The author’s description and character development allowed the reader to get into the story easily and quickly. A fabulous clean, good story about following your heart and not giving up.

Lauren says: The best part of the story for me were the characters and their development. I kept thinking it was going to be predictable but it had enough surprises and twists to feel refreshing and creative.

SStew says: Great read! I loved getting the story from two different perspectives and how it went back and forth from present to past. If you like this genre it is a great book from a first time author. I’ll look forward to her future releases.

Excerpt

“Need any help, Lexa?”

“It’s A-lexa,” she said, dragging out the A at the beginning of her name. She threw her backpack over her shoulder, gathered her lunch and started for the junior high.

“Yeah, but I think I’ll call you Lexa.” I hurried to her side and flashed her a smile.

She shook her head, another tiny smile flickering across her face. She was cute when she was irritated.

I followed her to her locker, leaning against the one next to hers. I hadn’t made any friends yet and Lexa intrigued me. She slammed her locker shut.

“Did you need something?”

There was that irritated look again.

Lexa and I had History together after lunch. “I wanted to make sure you made it to class okay.” I thought I saw another smile as she started down the hall without answering.

“This is so nice,” I shouted into the busy hall. “Just you and me walking to class together.” She snorted, quickly covering her mouth, but not before I saw a speck of spit fly through the air.

“Real funny, Wyatt.” She laughed and her face turned bright red. I wasn’t sure if she was embarrassed by the flying spit or by the fact that she actually knew my name.

“You know my name? Have we met?”

“Maybe you haven’t noticed, but every day Mr. Kline has to say, ‘Wyatt, wake up!’”

I liked her even more. She had spunk. I laughed as we arrived at the classroom, but my laughter was cut short. I’d forgotten something. I had my soccer ball in my hands and no backpack.

“Hey, can I borrow a pencil?” I hoped she didn’t think I was a big dork, standing there with just my soccer ball.

Hearts in Harmony and Something Blue

Tour Schedule

And Something Blue

And Something Blue by Paige Timothy (Main Street Merchants #1)

Bridal consultant Laurie Fletcher spends her days helping others prepare for the most special day of their lives. Will true love ever come her way, or is she doomed to watch others get their happily ever after?

Review

Loved this simple, wholesome and very clean romance novella. Laurie is looking for love but not finding it. Logan is a lawyer caught up in his own ego…until they meet.

While some of this was very predictable, it didn’t make it any less of a story. I thought the story was well written and complete…didn’t leave you hanging, much! Hopefully in the next book we will find out a little more about Laurie and Logan even though the next book is about another roommate of Laurie’s.

If you have an hour or so, pick up this book and sit back and enjoy the romance.

We give it 5 paws up!

For Love or Money

For Love And Money by Paige Timothy (Main Street Merchants #2)

Cynical Morgan has just about decided that no one could possibly fall in love with her – all the good guys want perfect girls, and she’s anything but perfect. But then along comes the guy who falls head-over-heels in love with her just as she is and helps her find the bright side of life again.

Review

This is the 2nd novella by Paige and this time it features Morgan, Laurie’s friend that works at the bank. In the first book it is revealed that Morgan is in love with her coworker Rory and this is their story.

This was just as clean and sweet as the first book and the only thing I’m not sure if I liked was because it runs concurrently to Laurie’s story some of the conversations are repeated, but from a different viewpoint…so slightly different. Luckily there was only really 1 scene that was the same so really not much repetitiveness.

Definitely a good read and only takes about an hour!

We give this one 5 paws up too!

Hearts in Harmony

Hearts in Harmony by Raine Gillespie (Love Notes #1)

Elahna Nezario gave up her musical dreams to help run the Queen of Hearts, her mother’s chocolate shop, after her sister’s sudden death. After an unfortunate run-in with Elahna’s childhood crush, owner of the Dolce Theater, not only do her dreams surge back to life, but so does her heart.

Review

This was a good book but a little edgier than I expected. Really not that much but there was a bit of a mystery going on as to what was happening with Timothy’s theater. He was also not very likeable in the beginning. Elahna is an interesting character, she is very smart and has total recall (or something similar) when it comes to music and numbers. Sometimes I wish I could be like that.

But enjoyable story overall and not long as it is a novella!

We give this 4 paws up.

Waltzing on Wheels

Waltzing on Wheels by Raine Gillespie (Love Notes #2)

Meredith Aaron lost all hope for love after a car accident put her in a wheelchair. Who would want her, broken as she is? After her brother tells her to save a dance for him at his wedding, she decides to somehow learn how to dance on the only legs she has left—her wheels.

Review

I liked this much better than the first book about Timothy and Elahna. Shoot this book had me tearing up at the end! In this novella we get to see Meredith’s story and there is very little overlap with the first novella. I did find it interesting that Meredith was very accepting and forgiving with another character when she finds out his true identity. But maybe because of everything she has gone through then it wasn’t as bad as it could have been?

Another sweet and clean romance novella!  And we give this one 5 paws up

Beam n Read

Purchase your own Beam N Read Reading Light from
AMAZON

Beam N Read Hands Free Travel and Reading Light

New edition Beam n Read Hands-Free Light delivers a wide & bright light that lights up 2 book pages and doesn’t disturb others. It’s a true reading light that works with all printed books, Kindles and other eReaders (whether naked, skinned, or covered), PLUS newspapers, magazines, newsletters, loose documents, and other items that can’t support a clip-on light. Worn around the neck, there’s no need to shift it when reading paperbacks.

Included are two 2 special Relaxation Filters: BNR Orange for a softer, warmer light that blocks energizing blue light (especially useful when reading to relax in bed); BNR Red to block blue light and reduce ambient light for sensitive bed partners.

Standard alkaline AA batteries (not included) last an extra long 100 hours, far longer than flashlights and clip-on lights resulting in a lower cost to use (and fewer batteries in the trash). This light is still bright when others have gone dim. Save batteries for when you’re on the go with the optional USB/AC Power Kit with 12 ft of cable that lets you plug into the included USB/AC adapter. Or plug into a USB car adapter/charger, or a computer USB port, or a USB adapter/charger for cell phones, etc.

In addition to reading, this 3 LED hands-free light is great for crafts, travel, and walking in dim or dark places such as an attic, basement, or around the house during a power outage. Use it for writing journals, working, camping, changing diapers at night, and a lot more.

Review

I was lucky enough to have been chosen to receive a Beam n Read Light to test out and review.

I am not sure how I lived without this product all these years.  I am a massive reader, especially at night in bed.  But, not wanting to keep my husband awake, my lamp was on low which doesn’t always provide the most light for reading.  Sure if I’m reading my Kindle Fire, no problems because it is backlit, but a traditional book?  Well let’s just say as my eyes got older I needed more light to be able to read the book properly.

From the first moment I started using the Beam n Read light, I could read my books so much easier and it didn’t keep my husband awake.  I do use the orange filter to mute the light, but it still makes it so much easier to read (and stay up way too late enjoying all those books I have piling up!).  I haven’t tried the red filter or without any filter at all because I think I found my perfect solution with the orange filter.  I also like how you just flip up the light to turn it on and the handy neck strap keeps it from falling on the floor or other places if I happen to move around .

I’m sure that this light has a multitude of other options for use, but for me, the main use is as a reading light.

I did also receive the adapter, but haven’t had a chance to use it because there are no easy access plugs in my bedroom and I haven’t used it anywhere else yet.  But I can see this being very handy and save on battery wear.

We give this 5 paws, and if my scale went higher I would rate it higher!

Most of Thulu and La Fi’s clients are dead. Which is perfect since their detective agency caters to the supernatural. But a simple job finding a lost locket leads to a big case tracking relics for an ancient daemon.

The daemon needs the relics to keep a dangerous portal closed. His enemy, Gabriel, wants the relics to open the portal and give his people access to a new feeding ground – Earth.

Caught on live TV, other portals begin to open and the creatures of magic return to Earth. The people of Earth are not alone, but will soon wish they were.

When Gabriel threatens their family, Thulu and La Fi’s search becomes personal. The couple will need powerful help in the race to find the relics before Gabriel does. But maybe that’s what ghostly friends, magical allies and daemonic clients are for.

Excerpt

Backing away, I turned toward the wall. “Can’t you just leave me alone? All I’m asking for is time to say goodbye to my family. Why is that so hard?”

I could feel the heat of him directly behind me but didn’t turn. “You know the reason.” His tone was quiet and serious. “I am not going to repeat myself.”

“Go away, Devin.” Tears of frustration would not be held at bay any longer and my words were laced with hatred. “Just leave me alone!”

“No.”

Heat building in my chest suddenly exploded and I turned and shoved him as hard as I could. He staggered backwards a couple steps, but caught himself easily.

“That was pathetic,” he mumbled and moved back over to me.

“Stay back!” I demanded, fists held defensively forward.

He laughed at my threat and grabbed for both of my wrists. Arms flailing wildly, I avoided his hands but somehow he flipped me around to pin my body against the wall with his. He slipped his legs between mine and spread them wide.

“Get . . .off . . . me.” I huffed under his weight and struggled to pull away. He only dug his knees into the backs of my legs more forcefully. Laughing, he pressed his torso harder against my back before fumbling to grab my wrists.

“Make me leave, Anna,” he whispered breathlessly into my ear as he forced my hands over my head. His fingers dug into my wrists and this brought tears to my eyes.

“You’re hurting me!” I hissed through clenched teeth and leaned away from his face. “Get off me!”

He grunted with the effort and after a bit of a fight took both of my hands in one of his. With his free hand he took a fistful of my hair and yanked my head back.

“Ow!” I swore and blinked tears down my cheeks.

“You better hurry.” He hissed. “Make me leave before someone gets hurt.”

The heat of his breath in my face fueled the fire in my chest and I screamed in frustration, fear and anger. He laughed gratingly and this only ticked me off more.

“No one can hear you scream. It’s just us.” He pushed my knees painfully into the wall with his legs. “Maybe you like this. Huh?” he asked, pressing his torso harder against me. I cried out as the air was squeezed from my lungs. “I am in complete control, Anna. I could do whatever I pleased with you right now. What are you going to do about it?”

“Why are you doing this to me?” I sobbed and my anger fizzled. My words came out in a great shudder. “Get off. Please.”

“Come on!” Spittle sprayed my cheek when he yelled and I clamped my eyes shut. “You’re not Annalisa Harold.” He yanked my hair again and I whimpered.

“Stop crying,” he demanded and let up his grip a fraction.
“You’re a warrior. A Keeper of the Gate!” Air huffed from my lips as he pressed against me again. “Now. . .come . . .on! Make me leave!”

I wriggled and struggled to move away but it felt like he was made of iron. I sobbed breathlessly, my muscles spent. His suggestion I was some type of warrior was ridiculous.

Devin’s voice was laced with anger. “He will destroy your family. He will torture your friends. Is that what you want for them?”

I couldn’t breathe, could hardly think of anything but taking a lung full of air. My cheek pressed against the cold drywall and tears dripped like ice down my neck. I wanted to get away from him, wanted to breathe, but sorrow sapped my strength. Perhaps I should give in to him. Perhaps that was what I needed.

I cried then. Long, mournful sobs racked my trapped chest for what felt like hours. We stayed as we were for so long, in fact, the cold in the drywall started to eat itself into my brain. I pleaded, I begged, I screamed, but Devin refused to release me. His breath was like fire in my ear, his body a prison. He was never going to let me go.

Then the images started to come. I was desperate to save my mother, my father, my friends. Scene after scene of my life flashed like lightning in a summer storm and I knew I couldn’t sacrifice them. I didn’t care about myself, I wanted to die, but I couldn’t let my family suffer in my place. They were the innocent. They had loved me like their own.

Drawing what breath I could, I screamed from the pit of my stomach and pushed against the wall with all my might. This last effort created enough space to allow me to turn around. Anger flooded in then and I wanted to kill him. My heart raced, I couldn’t seem to draw enough air, and my body tingled with lightning.

Meeting his eyes, I didn’t miss the look of surprise that swept across his face. Glad I finally had the advantage, I drew a shaking breath before shoving him with as much strength as I could muster. As my fingertips touched his chest, the air came alive with pin pricks of electricity. Amazingly, Devin flew across the room, pulled by some invisible force, and I was left standing alone in shock. His body hit the opposite wall hard enough to knock my clock off the nail, but he
was right back on his feet and hardly fazed at all.

He adjusted his glasses and smoothed his hair. “That was good, but it wasn’t good enough.”

Recklessly, he charged at me again but this time I was ready. I lunged into a forward roll away from him, and got back on my feet, fast enough to send a roundhouse kick toward his head.

He blocked my foot skillfully, but I nearly missed a low kick from him toward my right shin and stopped it at the last second. In a flurry of movement, he threw a series of punches toward my head, all of which I blocked with my forearms. Unfortunately, as I was backing up I tripped over a book bag. He grabbed the front of my shirt as I collapsed backwards and my hair brushed the wall.

“Careful,” he said breathlessly, eyes wide with excitement.

“Thanks,” I grunted and wrenched my shirt free of his grip as I jumped back on my feet.

With every inhalation of air my body came more alive. I was electrified, invincible, and going to kick Devin’s ass.

Wrestlin’ Christmas with Shanna Hatfield

Wrestlin-Christmas-promo-2

It’s a pleasure to be here with you today sharing a little about my sweet holiday romance Wrestlin’ Christmas the second book in the Rodeo Romance series.

Cort McGraw lives up to the cliché of tall, dark, and handsome with a head of cropped black hair, liquid silver eyes, and a dimple in his chin that draws the attention of nearly every female he passes. A world-champion steer wrestler, Cort can’t quite come to terms with a career-ending injury leaves him sidelined. Shanghaied by his sister and best friend, he ends up at a run-down ranch owned by a wary yet entirely beautiful widow.

K.C. (Kaley) Peters possess a lifetime of experience in the school of hard knocks. After the death of her husband, she gives up on the slightest possibility of ever knowing a happy future. The silence of her little boy, Jacob, echoes in her ears, reminding her of all she’s lost. Just when she’s ready to give up all hope, her neighbor sends over a friend to help her out on the ranch.

Within five minutes of meeting Cort McGraw, Kaley wants to chase him off the place. He’s much too handsome, charming, and engaging for her tattered emotions to handle. Ready to send him packing, Jacob has other ideas…

Excerpt

In this scene, Kaley has just met Cort at her house. She retreats to the kitchen to gather her composure while Cort takes his horses to her barn:

She took a deep breath, fighting the urge to call Tate and Kenzie Morgan and give them each a tongue-lashing.

The pastor at church put out feelers with the area ranchers to see if they might know anyone interested in temporary work. Aware her summer workers returned to college, the kind man knew she needed help. As much as she wanted to run the ranch alone, it was more than she could handle.

Tate Morgan called the previous afternoon and said he knew someone experienced willing to work for what she could pay. Unable to believe her good fortune, she expected a grizzled old ranch hand in his retirement years, not a good-looking giant of a man in his prime.

Tall and brawny, Cort McGraw happened to be one of the most handsome men she’d ever seen. From his silvery-gray eyes rimmed with black eyelashes to the dimple in his all-too-attractive chin, she wished Kenzie had given her some warning. If she’d known what he looked like, that he was so young, rugged, and hunky, she would have told Tate not to bother sending Cort to her place.

Mercy, he smelled good, too. Even now, his manly, musky fragrance filled her senses. Annoyed with herself for savoring his heady scent, she brushed at her nose, hoping to chase away the lingering aroma of his aftershave.

Review

I really loved this book! I’m not sure what exactly it was that drew me in and kept me engaged, but whatever Diane did, do it again!

I love how Poly was named…although wonder if she was heckled a lot as a kid with a name like Polyester.  And speaking of names, what she ends up naming the kittens is so appropriate!

There are some good strong characters that it will be interesting to see how they develop in future books, like Charlie, the female auto mechanic/shop owner. I liked her right off the bag and hoped she wouldn’t end up being the killer. Then there is Vaughn…I think Poly needs to dump Carson who appears to be too self centered and check out what Vaughn has to offer.

And as with many mysteries, I didn’t figure out who the killer was until that person was revealed. I guess that means that the author did a good job of throwing enough red herrings out there and subtle clues. I never would have guessed this person (and I tend to say that a LOT!)

Great new series, one to definitely check out.  We give it 5 paws up!
