Synopsis

To solve her father’s murder and save the family-owned glass shop, Savannah Webb must shatter a killer’s carefully constructed façade. . .

After Savannah’s father dies unexpectedly of a heart attack, she drops everything to return home to St. Petersburg, Florida, to settle his affairs–including the fate of the beloved, family-owned glass shop. Savannah intends to hand over ownership to her father’s trusted assistant and fellow glass expert, Hugh Trevor, but soon discovers the master craftsman also dead of an apparent heart attack.

As if the coincidence of the two deaths wasn’t suspicious enough, Savannah discovers a note her father left for her in his shop, warning her that she is in danger. With the local police unconvinced, it’s up to Savannah to piece together the encoded clues left behind by her father. And when her father’s apprentice is accused of the murders, Savannah is more desperate than ever to crack the case before the killer seizes a window of opportunity to cut her out of the picture. . .

Review

This is another good start to a series, this time it centers around stained glass making – the final product is always gorgeous to look at!

Savannah has come home for her father’s funeral and to sell his shop to his friend, Hugh. However, he is found dead in her shop as well and something doesn’t smell right. In cleaning out her father’s office she finds a clue from him (he was a cryptographer) that leads her to another clue and then another in a rush to find her father & “uncle’s” killer. Of course there is a bumbling police officer (that no one likes, not even the detective on the case) who doesn’t take her seriously and then thinks that the killer is a child with Aspergers.

While reading this book I didn’t really guess who the killer was but I had some strong suspicions that turned out to be correct.

I think there is going to be an interesting core group of characters – Edward the British Fusion shop owner next door, Amanda the high strung (IMHO) student that comes on as a part time office manager and then Rooney the lovable Weimaraner puppy….and who can’t love a book that includes a dog?!

The only “complaint” is that sometimes it was too detailed (for me) on how to make stained glass pieces. It wasn’t often, just in a place or two but it was in describing how to complete a certain task. It didn’t turn me off the book and will want to read more by this author.

We give this 4 paws up!

Guest Post

Today we welcome author Julie Mulhern to StoreyBook Reviews.  I love what she wrote for me because if you have read any of my reviews you know I have a Paw rating system and have 2 furbabies of my own.  So check out what she has to say about her dog, Max.

I am often asked if the characters in my books are based on real people.

The answer is always the same. “Just the dog.”

Max the naughty Weimaraner is based entirely upon Sam the naughty Weimaraner. Even the bravery.

When my youngest daughter was in second grade, one of the boys in her class told her that the devil was going to come and take her in the middle of the night.

Our assurances that Old Nick would not be coming were met with real doubt.

That night, she dragged a pillow and a blanket into our room after everyone was abed and slept next to Sam.

She did the same thing the next night.

And the next.

This was problematic. I frequently tripped over her on my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It couldn’t be good for her back. And her presence meant that any amorous ideas my husband and I might have had remained just that—ideas.

We tried reason. We tried bribes. We tried being firm. We took her to a child life specialist which led to spraying her pillow with a special sweet dream spray (aka lavender Febreeze). Nothing worked.

Turns out that logic and fear don’t play well together.

And then, one night, she spent the whole night in her bed.

She did the same thing the next night.

And the next.

Sam was happy because no one was encroaching on his dog bed.

I was happy because I wasn’t tripping over a sleeping child.

My husband was happy because…well, because.

Then it happened.

The dog woke us with a deep growl.

Someone was on our screened porch.

Bang! A fist or a foot hit the front door.

Sam barked. The kind of bark that means business.

My husband leapt from our bed. “Call 911.”

Bark! Bark! Bark!

I rushed to the phone.

Two very scared girls appeared in our bedroom.

The operator answered.

Bark! Bark! Bark!

“Someone is trying to break into our house!”

Bang!

Definitely a foot hitting the door. If someone hit that hard with their hand, they’d shatter their bones.

The dog stopped barking.

“Let me in you, @#$^$&&^@!” The man’s words were slurred but his rage was crystal clear.

“My wife has called the police.”

“^*(&$@^(^$&))@$@$Y(@)%)&@%($)%@!$^!!!”

Bang!

My husband appeared in our bedroom, dug a pellet gun out his closet and raced back down the stairs.

I waited on the phone with 911, my heart beating faster that I would have thought humanly possible. The girls huddled on the floor next to the bed.

Sirens.

The loveliest sound I’ve ever heard.

Seconds later, two police officers walked up our driveway, guns drawn. “Get down on the ground!”

More kicking. More blue language.

“Get down on the ground or I will shoot you.”

The kicking stopped.

That was the night I learned three things. One, my husband was willing to face a home invader armed with a pellet gun. Two, my dog is the bravest canine in the world—according to my husband he stood in front of the door, a ridge of hair the size of Texas raised on his back, and bared his teeth (aside from the doggy eye-roll when he saw the pellet gun), ready to tear out the intruder’s throat. Three, having a kid sleep in your room for an additional year isn’t the worst thing in the world.

Excerpt

I watched images flicker for another hour then I let Max out. He sniffed around the backyard, chased some small night creature through my hostas, ignored my scolding and finally agreed to come inside in exchange for a dog biscuit. I turned out the lights and climbed the stairs. My bed never looked so welcoming. I climbed in it, closed my eyes, and drifted to sleep.

Grrrrrr.

I opened one eye and squinted at the clock in the darkness. It was barely after midnight. Max couldn’t possibly have to go out again already.

Grrrrrrrrrr. Longer. Lower. More menacing.

I opened the second eye. Max stood at the closed door to the hallway. His growl rumbled in his throat. The sound gave me shivers. Was there someone in the house?

Excerpt

I’m what you call dead. That’s right—dead. And I been that way a long time.

Still hanging around though. Mostly because of my job. Guess you could say I’m self-employed.

What I do is pass along messages through a psychic named Gwen. She’s a great gal who helps people get over the loss of their loved ones. She and I connect, so to speak, to let the deceased communicate messages back to the living. Kind of helps, you know, with the grieving and all.

But first let me explain something about being a spirit guide (that’s what you living people call me). I admit I’m no angel, and I do occasionally fudge things. Not a lot, mind you, because meddling in the affairs of the living is a big no-no. Really frowned on by the higher-ups. See, we spirit guides are only allowed to meddle if some accident blows people way off course. Of their lives, that is. But that’s exactly what happened in the story I’m about to relate.

Now it all took place some years back. Not decades, mind you, just back (being dead, I tend to lose track of time). But trust me—everything’s true and accurate in this story. That’s because the dimension I now inhabit allows unlimited access to information. So I got the inside scoop on the story.

But let me start at the beginning. This teenager, see, he passed over. I mean, of course, he died. But the way he died was very troubling to the boy. Because painful issues were left unresolved. And it was driving this kid crazy. So he found me. And wouldn’t you know, his story just broke my heart. Because he reminded me of myself at that age, back when I was a young hooligan in the early part of the twentieth century.

This kid told me all about the big blowup he’d had with his dad, and what resulted from it. Poor kid—to have your life cut short like that. I figured that was plenty enough for the boy to handle. But having to witness the guilt and sorrow his death caused those left behind…well, I could plainly see this was killing the kid—in a manner of speaking, of course.

So I agreed to help. And that was what sent me off on a very unusual journey. Actually, it was more like an adventure involving a whole lot of still-living people.

Now from the viewpoint of the living, my journey really began with the cruise ship Viking Maiden. It was leaving port in Sydney, Australia for a twenty-one day ocean crossing to San Diego when the captain received weather reports of developing storms—typhoons, really—forming in the South Pacific. So the captain decided to alter the Maiden’s course to avoid the storms. This decision would take the ship hundreds of miles north of its scheduled route.

Oh. Forgive me for not introducing myself—name’s Pedro.

Review

I think this is going to be an interesting new series. Abby is a former police officer turned farmer. When Abby finds her friend Chef Jean-Louis dead in his bakery, she can’t believe it is suicide and sets out to prove the police wrong.

This book read like it was further in the series than book 1, there wasn’t a lot of back story at the beginning, you read about it as the book progressed which is what I normally see in later books in a series, enough back story to remind you of how the series was set up without rehashing the whole thing.

The killer was sort of easy to figure out once you got about 1/2 way through if you pick up on a few clues, but you don’t really know why until further on in the book. The up side is that Abby isn’t put into a predicament with the killer at the end but is able to help the police find the true killers.

The book has recipes and hints about raising bees and a few other tidbits that are interesting related to farming/gardening.  Maybe one day I’ll try a tip or two!

Overall we give this 4 paws up and look forward to more in the series.

From the author of the suspense thriller, VARIED TRAITS, comes the sequel, HEAVY HOUR!
Four teenagers form a bond during a hot Atlanta summer. Ten years later, a tragic event takes place during a swanky Midtown wedding reception. When the police come up empty in the search for a vicious killer, Salem Reid is summoned to investigate by a stripper whom he has recently saved from a murderous group of thugs. Reid can’t say no to a friend in need, so he puts his business on hold while he plunges into the case.
As Reid looks into the victim’s past, the motivation for the brutal murder and the identity of the predator are slowly revealed. But the killer remains elusive. As the story unfolds, a cast of characters emerges—from a beautiful young widow to a bevy of streetwalkers, from young professionals to a mentally challenged boy—all who assist Salem Reid in his search for the killer.

Excerpt

Chapter One
2004
THE YOUNGER BOY MET THE OLDER BOY in the woods along a gravel road behind Murphy Candler Pool. The former was fourteen, and a year younger than the older boy. The latter had a 1.5L bottle of unopened Cella Lambrusco wine that he had stolen.
The younger boy didn’t concern himself with where the wine had come from; he was just pleased that the older boy had brought it. They had done this before. It was a Tuesday afternoon in late July. The pair would share about half of the wine, and then they would go to the pool, both a little drunk. They had been friends since they were eight and nine years old, which was a long time for teenagers. The younger boy had a dark complexion year-round, and even more so in the middle of the summer. He had black, wavy hair, straight white teeth, dark brown eyes, and a medium athletic build. He was handsome. The older boy was pale. He was tall and lanky with thin, sandy hair, and blue eyes. He had a wiry build and was surprisingly strong. He was neither attractive nor unattractive. He was nondescript. They were both very good on the diving board at the pool; they could both perform the gainer flip and they could also do a double front flip. It didn’t matter if they were drunk, stoned, or sober. They could do it well any old way. They were excellent on their skateboards too, and used them frequently to wheel around the northeast Atlanta neighborhood where they lived. Among other skater tricks, they both were proficient with the 360 Ollie. They would fly off a ledge or a concrete stairway and twist all the way around, landing smoothly and evenly every time. It didn’t matter if they were drunk, stoned, or sober. They could do it well any old way.
The older boy twisted the top off the bottle and took a long pull.
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, and he passed the bottle to the younger boy. He chugged a healthy portion, and wiped his mouth on his bare upper arm. They rarely wore shirts outside
of school from May to September. It was the best time of year.
“Look, dude, I hear Jimmy’s grandpa keeps cash in a file cabinet in his bedroom. I bet we can get our hands on it,” the older boy said, as he took the bottle back from his friend.
“How much money?” asked the younger boy.
“Don’t know. I say we find out,” the older boy said, and then he took another big pull from the jug of wine.
“Who told you this?” asked the younger boy.
“Jimmy. He’s a dipshit,” the older boy said, and passed the wine to his pal.
The younger boy drank some more wine, shivered slightly, and then took another gulp. “So is Jimmy just gonna let us in the house?” he asked.
“Nah. The little pansy has piano lessons on Wednesdays at two o’clock. His grandpa, Morrie, takes him. His mom will be at work.
I left a window unlocked in the back of his house. We can climb in and check it out. It won’t take long,” he said.
“I could use some cash. I’d hate to have to mow a lawn or something,” the younger boy said, and they both laughed.
The older boy said, “Okay. Let’s meet here about one o’clock tomorrow and plan it out. Johnny Krimmer has a pound of weed he just bought. We can get some primo pot and party the rest of the week.
I bet we can sell some of it too, and maybe break even.”
Johnny Krimmer was an eighteen-year-old high school dropout who dealt drugs all over Chamblee, Sandy Springs, and Dunwoody.
“Johnny freaks me out a bit. Dude has a twitchy eye and a droopy mouth. He sucks his teeth all the time too,” the younger boy said.
“He’s pretty creepy, bro, but he’s got the goods. We can handle him together,” said the older boy.
Johnny Krimmer was rumored to be short tempered and mean spirited. He was sometimes quick to use his fists when things didn’t exactly go his way.
“That’s for sure,” said the younger boy, the alcohol giving him courage.
“Okay then. Let’s drink some more wine and head to the pool,” the older boy said. So that’s what they did.
The two friends hid the bottle for later in a ditch by the lake. They threw some leaves and branches over it. It would be easy to locate later that evening when they would be ready to drink some more. They swam and dove off the diving board for the remainder of the afternoon.
During the last adult swim, they struck up a conversation with a couple of fifteen-year-old girls from school. They invited them to join them later in the woods for some wine. The girls seemed interested, but were a little nervous about being caught or getting into trouble. The boys were persuasive, though, and the girls acquiesced. They were both pretty girls. One was tall and leggy, with well-developed hips, but smaller breasts than her friend. The other girl was tanned, medium height, and busty. The two girls, having grown up in the neighborhood together, had been friends since they were toddlers. They did everything together.
When the pool closed for the day, the four teenagers strolled into the woods as dusk was approaching. The tall Georgia Pines filtered the setting sun that was glimmering off the lake as the kids approached the ditch where the wine was hidden. The younger boy pulled the branches and leaves from the ditch, and the older boy reached down and plucked the bottle from its hiding place. There was a little over half a bottle remaining. The older boy unscrewed the cap and handed the bottle to the tall, leggy girl. She took a swig and scrunched up her face, as the boys laughed good-naturedly. She passed the bottle to her shorter friend, and she took an even bigger pull. The boys both took a couple of big drinks, and then they passed the bottle around until it was empty. They had a good buzz going, and the girls were a little past just buzzed.
The younger boy picked up a flat rock, and skimmed it over the lake’s surface. It skipped six times. The shorter, tanned girl was impressed.
“That’s pretty good,” she said.
“Here, let me show you how it’s done,” he replied, and took her by the hand and led her closer to the lake. He moved another thirty yards along the shore, deftly isolating the girl and himself from the other two.
He picked up another flat rock and threw it side-armed into the lake. It was a righteous toss. It skimmed eleven times, and reached past the middle of the lake before it faded into the water’s surface.
“Here, you give it a try,” he said to the giggling girl with the large breasts.
She giggled some more and tossed it into the lake with a three-quarter-arm angle. When she threw the stone, she stepped with her right leg as she threw with her right arm. The rock sank immediately.
“You throw like a girl,” the younger boy said.
She gave him a stern look, but then started giggling again. “I am a girl,” she slurred, and fell into him. Her breasts pushed into his chest, and he quickly pulled her close to keep her from falling.
He felt himself stir. “Yes, you are a girl—a very pretty one,” he said, as he moved in for a kiss.
She let him, but soon giggled again. He pulled her back and kissed her harder, this time exploring her mouth with his tongue. She reciprocated. She tasted like wine and the Fritos he had seen her eating at the pool. He pulled her down to the ground and they continued kissing. His erection was straining against his shorts. He moved to touch her boobs, and she allowed him to do so. He played with her breasts through her bathing suit top, and he thought she liked it. He reached behind her quickly and pulled her bathing suit string, and her top fell to her lap.
The younger boy gasped. He had seen breasts before, and even touched a girl’s boobs in the seventh grade, but nothing like these.
She reached up and covered herself with her hands, but she resisted only a little when he gently pushed them away. He bent to kiss one. Her nipple was hard in his mouth. He sucked on it, and she moaned. He tried the other one and found it equally fascinating.
He alternated between kissing her breasts and her lips, and he thought she liked it. Then he got bold. He moved his hand inside her shorts and touched the top of her pubic hair before she pushed his hand away.
“No,” she said.
The moment was gone. She re-tied her top, and sat facing the lake.
He placed his arm around her and she let him. He had almost gotten to third base with her, and his hard-on was raging. He took a few deep breaths, and contented himself with just sitting there with her.
He was pleased when she placed her head on his shoulder. He would try again on another day.
The pair turned when they heard the crunching of gravel and leaves as the older boy and tall girl approached. The tall girl had a slightly strained look on her face, and the younger boy couldn’t be sure if it was because of the wine or something the older boy had done. The newcomers sat next to their friends and said nothing. The older boy was smirking.
After a few moments the taller girl said, “We should be going home now. I don’t want to get into trouble.”
Her friend said, “Okay.” She turned to the younger boy, and said, “I had fun skipping stones with you.” She blushed, but now it was too dark to notice.
The group walked up the hill to the pool, where they headed north on Candler Lake West. The two boys peeled off on Navajo Trail and the two girls continued down the road towards their homes on Ashwoody Court. Darkness had arrived completely, closing the curtain on the day with finality.

The Ghost Host
Blog Tour Schedule

Ghost HostThe Ghost Host by DelSheree Gladden

Everyone thinks Echo Simmons is crazy, but being The Ghost Host isn’t just a YouTube hoax like people think. It’s the only way to control the ghosts haunting her…at least until the FBI shows up asking questions.

The first eighteen years of Echo Simmons’ life have been less than ideal. On more than one occasion her parents have considered committing her. They don’t believe she sees ghosts or that they harass her on a daily basis. So when a rogue ghost begins tormenting her, they’re the last people she’s going to tell. Her best friends Holden and Zara are doing their best to help, but ghost attacks are only the beginning of Echo’s problems.

Handling the ghosts by giving them a voice on YouTube through her webshow has been her saving grace—even if her parents think it’s all a hoax—but that gets a little complicated when the ghost of Madeline Crew reveals a little too much about her previous life and the FBI shows up at her door wanting to know how she gained access to long-buried government secrets.

It just keeps getting worse from there. Madeline’s message to her great grandson sparks a strange connection between Echo and Malachi, which leads to Georgia, secrets, mistakes, love, lies, and life changing revelations.

Excerpt

After a hasty goodbye to both guys, I shut down the game and stand. Suddenly, my hands feel cold. Breathing is difficult. My thoughts seem jumbled. I’m not even sure how I manage to put one foot in front of the other, but I end up in the living room doorway a minute later. As soon as I appear, two suit-clad people stand. One is a woman with long, straight hair. The other is an older man with silver at his temples.

“Echo, please take a seat,” the woman says.

The fact that they know me by sight really freaks me out. The numbing cold spreads from my fingertips up my arms. I sit down in an armchair next to the loveseat my parents are parked on. I look over at them, not heartened by the fearful expressions on their faces. My stomach turns as I force myself to face the FBI agents.

“What’s this about?” I ask quietly.

The older guy looks at me. His expression isn’t kind or unkind. It’s firm, but not in an intimidating way. “One of our agents saw your webshow this week, and we have a few questions.”

“The FBI watched my webshow?” I squeak. Even my parents look pretty taken aback by this news.

The woman smiles. “Not the FBI as a whole, but Agent Hollis happens to be a fan.”

I turn back to the guy. Is he Hollis? Doesn’t really seem like the type. As if sensing my question, he says, “I’m sorry, we didn’t introduce ourselves to you like we did your parents. I’m Agent Morton and this is Agent Ellington. We were assigned your case.”

“My case?” I feel sick. I can’t be an FBI case. Surely no college will ever take me if I’m on some kind of FBI watch list, right?

“It’s more of an inquiry,” Agent Ellington says. “Just a few questions.”

“About what?” my dad asks. I nod, echoing his question.

The two agents look at each other. Some agreement passes between them and it’s Ellington who takes the lead. “We just need to ask you about some of the information you mentioned on your last show. The stolen secrets, specifically.”

DelSheree Gladden was one of those shy, quiet kids who spent more time reading than talking. Literally. She didn’t speak a single word for the first three months of preschool, but she had already taught herself to read. Her fascination with reading led to many hours spent in the library and bookstores, and eventually to writing. She wrote her first novel when she was sixteen years old, but spent ten years rewriting and perfecting it before having it published.

Doll Making 101

Synopsis

Reneé Edward has a lot on her plate. She took over as President of the Reneé-Gal company from her father a few months ago. Just in time for a merger with a new parent company. As if that timing was not bad enough she finds out several Junior Executives have been ruining the merger from within.

Just as she is scrambling to pick up the pieces, Ruben Blackthorne strolls into her life. He is sexy, tall and clearly into her. Though she is excited about this new development in her love life Reneé finds it a little hard to juggle the new addition. As everything in her life finally seems to fall into place for the first time in almost a year Reneé finds herself confused as Ruben begins to pull away. Had she imagined their connection? Were things moving too fast? Lost and confused, at least she has her family and her fellow Deltas to get her through.

That is until everything takes another unexpected turn.

Get into the Delta

Excerpt

“Okay, sip and spill. What kept you away for the better part of a week?” Naomi asked before tipping her cup to her mouth.

Sighing Reneé unwrapped her sandwich. “You remember how Uncle James and I couldn’t figure out why there were all these hang ups with the negotiations right?”

Naomi’s eyes grew cautious and narrowed as she nodded over her mug.

“Well as it turns out three of our junior board members were sending emails sabotaging the merger. They claimed I was holding on to information to sweeten the deal for our side. They also said that they could, with help, oust me and make a more agreeable deal.”

Naomi’s eyes widened as she set down her mug. “Wait, what? Isn’t that illegal or something? Are you going to sue them? Can you save the deal? How did you find out?”

The shocked disbelieve from her friend made Reneé feel better. It made her feel like she wasn’t losing her mind to have someone as upset as she was. Uncle James had seemed more downtrodden than upset.

“One of their assistants got wind of what was going on and clued in Debbie. You know how she gets about finding information. She found the email correspondence between these guys and our soon to be parent company. When Debbie showed the emails to Uncle James and I we fired them. As for suing, I don’t know. Our lawyers are handling it.

We think the deal may be salvageable but they are sending in one of their acquisitions and negotiations guys to do the rest in person. That way there can be no mistakes. Uncle James is all for this. He says the guy they are sending is the same one that approached him and Dad years ago. That he is a trustworthy guy. I still don’t know. While I appreciate that they still want to negotiate it almost feels like I am being chastised for not having a better handle on the board.” Some of the stress crept back in as Reneé finished.

Smiling sympathetically, Naomi reached across the counter to squeeze her hand. “I’m sorry you have to deal with all this. But it is going to get easier right? I mean once this thing goes though your load will be lighter. There are maybe six months left, yes a hard six months but there is light at the end of the tunnel.” She gave another squeeze before letting go and grabbing her cup again. “Now eat your sandwich!”

Rolling her eyes Reneé complied, knowing full well Naomi wouldn’t let her talk again until at least half the sandwich was gone.

They sat in a companionable silence for several minutes when the bell above the door rang several times. When one particular time Reneé saw Naomi’s face light up she turned to see who entered. Then it was like she stopped breathing.

He was tall, maybe six-three and gorgeous. He had shaggy light brown hair, a sharp nose and jaw. As well as the palest blue eyes Reneé had ever seen. The mystery guy had one of those lithe builds that suited the jeans and t-shirt he wore as well as the guitar case strapped to his back.

Reneé made herself start breathing again as he came to stand next to her, beaming at Naomi.

Review

When I started reading this book I did not expect the book to such a powerful impact and that there are always two sides to a story.

In the beginning, you feel for Anna and her relationship with her mother Bea. Bea does come across as very selfish and self centered but as the book continues you learn more her background and why she might have done the things she did while Anna was growing up. Anna also learns a lot about herself and realizes that maybe she is stronger than she thinks too.

The book combines humor and real life into a story that could be told by any of us.

The story is very well written and in fact there is a sneak peek to the next book that is about Cecelia, Anna’s best friend. I was thinking as I reading the last few chapters that Cecelia has a story that needed to be told.  We give this 5 paws up!

This blog primarily reviews books but now and then I will remove a DVD or, in this case, a snack – perfect for watching that movie or reading that book.

Thanks to Influenster, I received this goodie box in the mail – a package of the cupcakes, coupons and a koozie.  Oh and can’t forget the hat!

100_2106

I love a good snack as much as anyone, but thought I would bring my stepson in to give his opinion too….he will eat most anything but won’t hesitate to tell me if he doesn’t like something.

100_2107

So we each opened a package, by the way we had the Reese’s Peanut Butter flavor, and these were the perfect size for snacking – there are 3 mini cupcakes per package and then there are 8 packages in the box.  This is perfect for lunches or mid afternoon snack.

100_2109

Here goes nothing – the big taste test.  And the results?  They were a big hit!  He loved them and wanted to eat the rest right away – I had to limit him to 1 and then spread the rest out in his lunch for school the following week.

Next time you are looking for a snack, pick up some of the Tasty Kake Minis.

Find Tasty Kake on Facebook and Instagram

We may have received these to test and review but all opinions are my own – as they always are!

Title: The Broken Half
Author: Sahar Abdulaziz
Publisher: Booktrope

Sahar Abdulaziz’s new Women’s Contemporary Fiction novel, The Broken Half, is the harrowing story of a young American Muslim woman, Zahra, whose marriage has been anything but peaceful. Faced with the difficult and dangerous choice to either stay in her abusive marriage or leave, Zahra soon realizes each step she takes towards freedom is riddled with risky and uncertain repercussions. Feeling trapped, alone, and without the support she so desperately needs, Zahra is almost out of options. While the threat of danger continues to escalate around her, will Zahra ultimately choose to fix her broken marriage or will escaping become a life or death decision?

About the Author

Challenging topics of family and marital discord, and the need for emotional survival, Abdulaziz uses her writing platform and voice to advocate for the underrepresented, the disenfranchised and/or maligned. Skillfully luring the reader into her stories without being extensively graphic or sensationalistic with hard-hitting, uncomfortable subject matter, she traces the triumphs and tragedies of families torn apart by familial domestic violence, and sexual abuse. She also explores the human desire and need for renewal, closure and finally healing. Her multidimensional characters have been described as having “substance and soul”. Author of As One Door Closes, Abdulaziz again demonstrates that those who have suffered are not victims, but survivors.
