Book Description:

I’ll get you and your little dogs, too!

Veterinarian Poe Madigan enters The Fur Ball with her Jack Russell terriers (aka The Terrible Two) to compete for a substantial cash prize that will keep her mother from losing her home.  But when her fabulous partner sprains his ankle, Poe must trade him and his talented Bichon for a sexy, muscle-bound hunk who can’t dance and his Basset Hound, Lazy Daisy. If that’s not enough to make her despair, it seems The Terrible Two have angered someone and they’re receiving death threats!

Security specialist Jared Taylor promises one of Poe’s friends that he will go undercover as her dog dancing partner to protect her from danger.  He didn’t expect to find his staid, traditional life would be turned all topsy-turvy and he would find a soft spot for a neglected hound and fall for a Goth princess.  But when he reveals who he really is and why he is in Poe’s life destroy the foundation of trust they’ve built?  Could he lose the real prize – Poe?

Review:

I’m not sure if I have ever said this on my blog, but I LOVED these books!  I downloaded Leashed for free and received Groomed for Murder and Hounded from the publicist.  I think it is the dogs that really drew me in since I have two of my own and I just LOVE dogs!  But it is also the unlikely friendship of four women that meet at a dog park.  They probably would never have met had it not been for their dogs and that dog park.  Of course three of the friends have dog related businesses so maybe they would have eventually met, but this made it more interesting.  I like that Poe is edgy in the way she dresses and that her other friends don’t judge her for her looks.  Brooke (from Groomed for Murder) is a take charge business woman that won’t let a snotty high society lady run her over.  And Callie (in Leashed) knows how to train dogs…and looks like men too!   The fourth friend, Harper, has her book coming out later and she is a rich society woman that could care less about her money and cares more about her friends and will help them do whatever it takes.  And what romance book would be complete with out a hunky male?  All three books have men that are perfect for Callie, Brooke and Poe.  These guys complement the women and have strengths that offset the ladies weaknesses….which aren’t many other than getting into trouble!

While I would categorize these books as mostly romance, there is some mystery to them as well.  Obviously I have to give them 5 paws, I enjoyed them that much.  There is a 4th book coming out sometime in the future so I’m going to have to read that book as well.  I highly suggest picking these up or entering below to win a copy for yourself!

Review:

The author, Jeffrey A. Landers, visited StoreyBook Reviews a few weeks back and shared some useful information to everyone.  If you haven’t visited his website, know that a portion of all book sales will be donated to the Bedrock Divorce Fund for Abused Women, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity whose mission is to help female victims of domestic abuse and the organizations that support them.

This is an amazing book!  I am lucky that I am not in the situation where I need to use all of the advice presented, but if you are ladies, then this is the book you need to pick up to make sure you are treated fairly in the divorce proceedings.  The chapters are laid out well with step by step instructions on things you need to do to protect yourself.  There is even a checklist in the back of the book to help you gather all of the documents you need to share with your attorney.  There are reminders and tips at the end of each chapter to help you out as well.

The book isn’t long, less than 200 pages, but well worth picking up and reading if you do not know where to start.  We give this book 5 paws and hope we never have to use the advice given by Mr. Landers.

I just finished the 16th book in the Hannah Swenson series, Red Velvet Cupcake Murder.  I love these books mainly for all the recipes (some I try but I drool over them anyway!).  Joanne also came out with a cookbook (with a mini mystery included) and I tried a couple of recipes from that cookbook for my book club’s cookie exchange.  mmmmmm, yummy!  She also has some recipes on her website, where you can also get more details on all these books plus an earlier book that is being republished called Video Kill.

red velvet

Synopsis:

This summer has been warmer than usual in Lake Eden, Minnesota, and Hannah Swensen is trying to beat the heat both in and out of her bakery kitchen. But she’s about to find out the hard way that nothing cools off a hot summer day like cold-blooded murder…

It’s a hot, muggy evening, and the last thing Hannah wants to do is squeeze into a pair of pantyhose for the Grand Opening of the refurbished Albion Hotel. But with Hannah’s famous Red Velvet cupcakes being served in the hotel’s new Red Velvet lounge, she can’t bring herself to back out.

The party starts off with a bang with the unexpected arrival of Doctor Bev, a Lake Eden legend who left town in shame after she two-timed her fiancé  one too many times. Bev’s splashy appearance on the arm of a wealthy investor is the talk of the night. But the gossip comes to a screeching halt when a partygoer takes a mysterious dive off the hotel’s rooftop garden.

The victim is the sheriff’s secretary, Barbara Donnelly, and she is barely clinging to life. The question is, did she fall—or was she pushed? As the police investigate, the only one who isn’t preoccupied with the case is Doctor Bev. She’s too busy trying to stir things up with her old flame Norman, who’s reunited with Hannah. Just as Hannah’s patience with Bev runs dangerously thin, her rival is found dead at the bottom of Miller’s Pond. The only clue the police have is the Red Velvet cupcake Bev ate right before she died — and the tranquilizers someone seems to have baked into it. To everyone’s shock, Hannah is now the unlikely target of a murder investigation — and she’s feeling the heat in a way she never has before…

Book Description:

WHY CAN’T I BE YOU takes its name from a 1987 hit song from English rock band The Cure.  All her life, Jenny Shaw toed the line, striving to be the perfect colleague, girlfriend, and daughter – a path that has led her to an unhappy (though successful) career, a failed relationship, and all-but-severed family ties.  On her way to the airport for her first business trip, she is unceremoniously dumped by the man she thought she would one day marry.  In her haze of shock and confusion, she responds to the wrong name when Myra Aberly, organizer of Seattle ’s Mt. Si class of 1999’s thirteenth high-school reunion, shouts “Jessie!” across the hotel lobby.

In an instant, Jenny Shaw becomes Jessie Morgan, a woman to whom she bears an uncanny resemblance. She is immediately embraced by Jessie’s warm circle of friends – and gains a possible love interest.  But when Jenny becomes more and more curious about Jessie’s history, she uncovers a trail of secrets, pain and deceit that inspires her to uncover the truth that will heal her own painful past.

Review:

I took this book with me when I went to visit my parents this weekend…I was on my own (no dogs or hubby) so started the book around 11pm Saturday night….I did not put the down until around 1:30 AM…yes you read that right, I finished the book into the wee hours.  I don’t know what it was about the book but I just couldn’t put it down.  I could have made myself do that but I kept wanting to know what happened next.  I felt bad for Jenna who kept trying to tell these people that she wasn’t Jessie, but at the same time wondered if she really tried hard enough.  I couldn’t blame her for her actions, who wouldn’t want the chance to have real true friends if the opportunity presented itself?  I think all of the characters did some growing up in this book and perhaps we all see a little of ourselves in the various characters.  I remember going back to my high school reunions and finding out that the cliques in high school don’t really continue into real life.  Like the characters in this book, some people do keep more in touch with each other, but you still have some that fall off the face of the earth.

I LOVED this book and if you get a chance to pick this book up (or win it below), I think you will be glad that you did.  I’m giving it 5 paws!
